        Not sure what the core reason is, but Reddit also had a big German population.

        I guess Germans are rather privacy focused so they might have been disproportionately migrating during the reddit exodus.

            not that the recent governments care, they want to centralize most of the data of citizens now with pretty poor protections in a lot of cases. sads

              Having the data is one thing, using data for genocide and oppression is whole different issue.

              But despite all that history, Germans will blindly support Israel

                sadly, data that is too centralized and easily available will always be abused at some point. the recent US developments are showing this nicely.

          At least one of the two Lemmy maintainers is also German or at least a native speaker as far as I know.
