It’s the same reason they go armed to buy donuts or groceries. They afraid of everything and everyone. It has got to be stressful.
I’d wager being so stupid is a huge weight off ones shoulders.
Only if you assume that going equipped for war while running errands makes them less fearful. They’re terrified and have murder fantasies.
