If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or later with iOS 26+, the summary is created on your device using Apple Intelligence. On other devices with earlier iOS versions, the page text is sent securely to Mozilla cloud-based AI, which creates the summary and sends it back.
They have a knack for giving us things nobody is asking for.
Fucking garbage.
Firefox or this specific functionality?
The AI crap in general, but Firefox keeps pushing the integration. It’s well on it’s way.
IMHO this is kinda the best implementation we could hope for:
- 100% opt-in: requires activating a shortcut
- non intrusive: doesn’t use up pixels or processing unless activated.
- Uses on-device models when available.
Hey Firefox, if you’ve been asking yourself why you’re losing market share lately… Idiotic features like this no one asked for and no one needs instead of using resources for something productive are the reason.
I read it 3 fucking times as “snake to summarize” and thought it, like, text to speech a web page for you while you played a game of snake. I assumed it was some sort of “accessibility” feature…
