They don’t have legit elections anymore, and even if they did it doesn’t matter.

The poll clearly shows Americans have a more favorable view of the Republicans than the democrats. What a pathetic country.

Trumps 2nd term has had higher approval ratings. Let that sink in.

It’s because the democrats have become master-classes in supporting candidates that Republicans hate and everyone else can barely tolerate.

It’s the fault of everyone who voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primary for why we now have 2 donald trump presidencies. These pieces of shit don’t want to pay more in taxes, so they’d rather have a fascist in office than a progressive.

People say republicans deserve the day they voted for, but so does every other dipshit/moron voting against progressive policies.

To be fair, they lost their shit over Obama, the second most milquetoast president in my lifetime. Like they made up scandals that normal people should’ve been like “yeah chief, mustard and a suit ain’t it.” But people who vote Republican are all braindead traitors as far as I’m concerned.

Fix Bush’s mess? He doubled down on all of the worst excesses of Bush’s mess. Ramped up drone strikes, invaded more countries, renewed the patriot act, violated the war powers act by staying in Syria too long, tried to arrest Snowden. 2 more terms of bush would have looked identical.

CNN POLL: Which party would you rather see in control of Congress after next year’s congressional elections? (RV, with leaners)

    🟦 Democrats: 52%
    🟥 Republicans: 48%

That’s really scary IMO, 48% STILL lean Republican!!

The economy sucks almost as bad as during COVID now, unemployment is increasing, wage values are decreasing, Trump is running a fascist regime, and working on undermining democracy, USA is losing allies left and right, and ICE is picking Americans up in the street. And Republicans are actively waging war on every single minority there is.

How can Republicans still have 48% support?

Decades of unfilteted right wing propoganda.

Seriously Fox, and Right wing radio have portrayed democrats as the epitome of evil, or working eith the literal christian devil. If you take your faith even the slightest bit seriously you will not or cannot possibly vote for a democrat no matter how bad it may get.

Look at them trying to deify Charlie Kirk, the man said some absolutely vile things and he was fucking mild compared to people like Fuentes, Milo, Miller and even Alex Jones. They never see what he said about the civil rights movement, or black pilots. They only see a good christiam boy taken down for expressing an opinion. It shouldnt surprise a single soul its this close

This is a seriously disingenuous comment at best. There’s clearly a problem within a lot of christian congregations when it comes to nationalistic ideology, but to suggest that any sort of faith forces you to vote against democratic politicians is wildly inaccurate. In just my firsthand experience with those that truly practice what Christianity teaches(helping the poor, sick, hungry, etc.), I see a left-leaning majority. So I would argue its the opposite. Those that practice their faith rather than just attending church and virtue signaling within their community tend to vote for progressive policy that enact social programs for the disadvantaged members of society.

You obviously don’t live in the south. They vote for Republicans like people who rally for their favorite football team.

No matter how horrible Republicans are, religious people vote for them because they are the god party and Democrats don’t talk about it, so clearly they hate God.

This is how they think and church leaders make sure to pass on political propaganda in church to get more people to vote Republican.

It’s a broad statement, but when I saw that about obviously not living in the south. I got out, but guys… it’s bleak down there…

We want change, we have got to get the neo-confederacy out. The biggest church is still the Catholics which they’ve swayed to the Republicans side with single issue of abortion, but the US is mostly protestant and the biggest protestant church is the southern baptist church. The church that literally was formed during the Civil War so they could continue to say slavery wasn’t a sin. And it is the kudzu of religion down there.

Seriously… if you live in an area where a nuanced view is possible, good for you. And I can understand trying to lower the temperature… but if you have people that are in the left side of Christianity… there needs to be some serious outreach work to try to bring some sanity to the evangelicals to the country.

I broadly agree with you, but I think the above comment is saying that in the context of what the right wing media pushes

Like, there are some groups for whom religion is less about the teachings and more about in-group mentality, and fox etc have successfully weaponised that and made Republicanism a central tenet of the in-group

It’s not a universal thing by any means, but it has been part of the fox agenda

It kind of doesn’t though. The specific thing it found (italicization added)

The poll found that large shares of Americans believe Republicans’ views on crime and policing, immigration and the economy are closer to their own than Democrats’ views, according to CNN’s report. Republicans have a 15-point advantage on crime and policing, a 7-point advantage on immigration and a 5-point advantage on the economy, according to the poll.

          and earlier in the article

The poll also found that 58% of respondents said things are going “pretty” or “very” badly in the United States today, while 42% said things are going “pretty” or “very” well. Americans still carry negative views of both political parties, with 52% having an unfavorable view of Democrats and 51% having an unfavorable view of Republicans.

A relatively large portion of Americans think something isn’t working right now and aren’t happy with what they’re getting. They would still like to solve all of their problems by just inflicting violence on the right people because we have watched too many bad action movies and cop shows and modern military shooters and have some seriously fucked up beliefs about the utility of violence, but Americans see gardeners and school teachers and doctors and parents being dragged away by masked government agents that lash out violently with zero provocation and they say “no, not like that, you’re not hurting the right people, this isn’t what I voted for, etc.”

Also, Republicans numbers are being artificially boosted by the fact that Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries can’t go more than three days at a time without saying something that makes them sound completely full of shit.

    They…don’t…care…

They’ve spent the last year rigging the system to ensure that there will not be a fair election. How the hell are people still clueless about that?

You could walk in on election day, vote overwhelmingly for Democratic tickets, and still wake up the next morning with the Republicans up and down the board miraculously winning. Even if it’s obvious, and so-called “investigations” are launched, the system is filled with Trump loyalists.

The time to fix this electorally was a long long time ago.

        I believe popular will matters

Last time a president won by a landslide was when Obama pretended that it does in 08. Then he governed as just another “moderate” and the myth died everywhere except in the minds of the chronically naive and/or uninformed and the willfully obtuse.

Authoritarianism is a lot harder to do when the subjects are restless.

Sure, but it’s still been the modus operandi for the US government forever. Being the richest nation with the most bloated military in the history of the world makes unpopular things MUCH easier to get away with.

While overt fascism coming back is new, the US government has ALWAYS been authoritarian and the popular will has very rarely mattered more to its governance than “might makes right and rich makes mighty”.

      Here’s my take on this:

There’s never been a “landslide win” for anybody, right? It’s always been just above 50%. So they just need to shake or discredit 1 or 2%.

Their approach is multipronged, and already happening for the longest time:

      1. get people in positions of power who can be relied on to dispute any democratic win
      2. make sure all demographics that are likely to vote democrat are weakened
      3. Any state democrats win, claim they cheated. Lawsuits, blame workers, machines, the lot.
      4. rouse the rabble, first during (intimidation) and after (Jan6) elections
      5. If things go awry, have troops ready to enforce the “true” result

All these things have precedent going back decades. Not 100% sure about the last one though.

Actually, almost 6/10 think things are getting worse. They prefer Republican approaches over the Dem approach to those issues when they’re forced to pick one or the other, but a majority disapprove of both parties.

Basically what we want is for Senator Chris Pine to judo chop some terrorists after rescuing orphans from a burning building and then solve poverty and racism with a motivational speech about what makes America the greatest country on earth. We aren’t evil but we ain’t smart and we’ve ended up being taken advantage of by some of the worst people on the planet.
