Commons Leader Sir Lindsay Hoyle issued the writ on Monday afternoon for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election.

The showdow contest between Labour and the Green Party is expected to take place on Thursday October 8, or possibly a week later on the 15th.

At the weekend, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband led Labour‘s first campaign to win the crunch by-election against Green leader Zack Polanski.
