I think the “logic” is that if things are too expensive to import then companies will start manufacturing them domestically and create jobs. But that almost never works out. An economist could probably explain why better than I can.

I do know that the better approach is to support those industries here. That’s why we recently dumped a bunch of money into the CHIPS and Science act.

Even if all they do is make it illegal for school districts to require enrolled students to be vaccinated (or at least have a waiver), then the result is that vaccines will be dramatically less effective at preventing disease.

THAT’S NOT HOW FUCKING SCIENCE WORKS! You don’t get to start with the premise “it’s not safe” and then go looking for data to support your premise. You start with the data and go where it leads you. That data is already available, BTW, and has been for ages. RFJ Jr has already been shown the data and refused to accept it many times. He’s convinced that some nameless agency is hiding the Truth from him.

Also, the idea of completely upending agencies that deal with public health so you can enforce your personal pet conspiracy theories is not “pretty fun.” It’s nightmare fuel.

Trump won’t have the authority to pardon him for this. It’s a local, civil case.

He’s literally saying “this is my fault.” That doesn’t mean he’s willing to suffer the consequences personally. Not defending his decisions, just pointing out that people seem to be misunderstanding what “accountable” means.

Yeah. Because wages have remained stagnant, or even decreased relative to prices. Inflation is supposed to be a response to people making more money, but that never happened. So now we’re all just effectively poorer.

So it is “amoral” to tell women that they can make their own decisions. Thanks for clearing that up, Newt.

Bullshit. The message from the left is “you don’t HAVE to be a privileged piece of shit that is a useless rapist.” That isn’t just aimed at young white men. It’s aimed at anyone that was raised in a culture of toxic masculinity and feels like that’s the persona they have to project to be considered manly. You have the choice to not be that person. The fact that so many men are is why women don’t want to be alone around a strange man. Does that seem unfair to you? It probably is, but it’s the culture we’ve built over generations, and it’s going to take time and work to fix it. You aren’t part of the solution by complaining. Funnily enough, he has been conspicuously silent on the subject since. Instead, he’s now making “jokes” about repealing the 19th amendment. A real piece of work.

I know that here in WA state last year, several county election offices were sent envelopes filled with white powder, and a few of them tested positive for trace quantities of fentanyl. It’s a somewhat nebulous threat, since nobody was actually affected, but there you go.
