Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•What are some of the biggest continuity errors in Star Trek?English
6·6 days agoI had no idea they were related, but apparently they were (thanks 😉). But that too was soon retconned:
According to comments by Michael and Denise Okuda, when mentioning of the speed limit was abandoned a few years after “Force of Nature”, it was assumed that newer ships, such as the USS Voyager and USS Defiant, had improved environmentally friendly warp drive systems, that did not cause damage to the spatial continuum.

15·6 days agoWarp 10 and salamanders. Great examples 👌
But what about TNG 7x09, the one where we learn that warp travel damages subspace and that a warp speed limit is the solution?
Later, the Federation Council issues a new directive limiting all Federation vessels to a speed of warp five except in extreme emergencies.

My wife (and probably many others) disagrees, but I’m firmly of the opinion that Starships by Nicki Minaj is an uncertified trek banger 🙌

3·4 months agoI just want to tell you how much I liked the episode that explored Klingon honor and how that hunting scene kept being recontextualized.
The show reminds me of Lower Decks in that it’s different but it’s the same. Cant wait to see more.

3·7 months agoit seems like Trip Tucker was one of the three main characters, Phlox was a constant presence even if rarely the main character, and then Mayweather and Hoshi got like one episode a season in which they were even involved.
Nailed it I’m afraid.
One the plus side, all episodes with Phlox are better for having him, except when he’s clearly pushing the awkward romance plots along.
The real tragedy is Travis and Hoshi; at least they finally get to shine (a little) on the mirror universe episode 😎

15·7 months agowe wanted to send a valentine to the franchise, and I still stand by the concept of the episode, which is it’s actually an episode of Next Generation where they’re looking back at Enterprise on the holodeck, which I think is a cool idea

1·7 months agoI always wonder how the guy playing Travis felt about the writers creating an alien that stereotypes all human beings as white.
I mean, they could have at least explored how the character Travis felt about it. Real missed opportunity.

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy Tactics with the translation-so-bad-it’s-might-be-a-masterpiece.
Actually interesting and novel ability names
Japanese: Dance with knives
1997 Localization: Wiznaibus
WotL Localization: Mincing Minuet
Dialog that pulls no punches
Japanese: My bad, but it’s between you and your god
1997 Localization: Tough luck…Don’t blame me. Blame yourself or God.
WoTL Localization: Forgive me. 'Tis your birth and faith that wrong you, not I.
Other gems lost in the improved localization:
- “heavens wish to destroy all minds”
- “the doom of a planet”
- “evanescence, such a sad word”
- “time, save your kindness for the worthy”
All that being said, the final fantasy gang is generally spectacular with English mastery. It’s like you can tell which books they like to read when they choose obscure words like Eidolon.
