This. Just leave it on your stove with oil / food in it til you’re ready to clean it. Then use soap water and a chainmail scrubber. Be as aggressive as you want. The smoother it is the better. If you have a cheap lodge, taking the time to actually use a sander will bring it to high quality smooth like a more expensive finex or other.

After cleaning toss back on the stove on the heat for like 1 min to dry it out and you’re good to go. Ideally toss a little oil in the pan after heating and use a paper towel to rub it around, but if you are in a rush don’t even have to do that.

Yeah sort of. I think they’re working with an OEM so they do get security patches early, but yeah. They stopped publishing the reference device tree or something and now it’s harder to support new pixels AFAIK. Yes. Ultimately I think one thing I’d love for would be a way to simply provide services (like Immich) for people but where the client is end to end encrypted, and neither the user nor the service has to worry about the how.

Example: how can I share an Immich with my family and friends, but where I don’t have access to any of their data. I.e. what signal does, but immich or any other service. I want to share my server with friends/family, but I don’t want access to any of their data. It isn’t a lack of trust, it’s that I don’t want that as even something they have to worry about

That same concept then extends here to community hosting. If we can solve the problem for a few, it should be scalable to many.

A rak wireless kit for a local repeater on my roof powered via PoE, and then a TTGO TEcho for my personal device.

I know that I should just get the latter and play with it first, but I live high on a hill with a great vantage point of the city so feels like a disservice to the community if I don’t also host a repeater.

One thing I’m curious about, is if I use it via poe, can I also send messages via the repeater? I.e. locally from my network initiate a message through my repeater?

I would want it in repeater mode so it would forward any message even ones I don’t have the encryption key for.

How do I do this? Shats the easiest way to get started?

Yes but, have you ever rooted a Xiaomi device. it’s VERY hard. not impossible, but very hard. Requires iirc a 28 day waiting period, and you can only do one per year. And yes, everything you have read is true about how bad it is. Did you know by default every app is set to debuggable? it’s something the OS does, and no, you can’t turn it off from the apps perspective. The whole system is just not secure, by design.

My… Guess is that it’s still another data point attaching your IP to you. I haven’t really dug into how true that would be, but there is def fingerprinting stuff that could be shared without location permission. I.e. just a web request gives them your phones ip. Now that might be your cellphone wan ip, That might be your home ip etc… still identifying info.

Imo this isn’t so much about tracking your literal location (though, that too) but also in tracking you across websites without permission.
