Economic ruin seems to help change minds.
But the world-view/sunk cost fallacy is a hard thing to counter.

The impact would have been to highlight how feckless the checks and balances are.
Yeah any nag screen needs to be disabled for at least a period of time after a donation (permanently, or replaced with a quick thank you screen for ongoing contributions).
Clearly reporting finances and costs is nice to see too and makes it more compelling for contribute in my opinion. A few Lemmy instances are doing that now and it makes it easy to want to contribute if you can.
My wife’s job would have just broken even with childcare. But really the problem is that someone needs to be home to caretake for the Alzheimer’s. We should be charging Medicare, but instead we’re living in for free.
Without that we’d be over the edge instead of just on it.
That assumes there was one (dad, or take from the dad).
The fact that it got a million pre-orders after he shattered 2 invincible windows on stage would have been a warning about the future of this place. Hindsight and all I suppose though.
They root for Vader and the Storm Troopees now and don’t watch Andor, the one I know anyway.
That’s too bad, I haven’t kept up with the news I. That I guess. The main problem I saw was that specifically Dubai preferred cold white light, while that should have nothing to do with longevity, the only place I can tolerate that is in my workshop, where I already have LED florescent replacements.
Yeah office should have been split and MSN too. But we have had oligarchs calling the shot for eons.
Keeping the electricity on long enough to enjoy games or movies is gonna be difficult if you rely on the grid right now.
So maybe archive the electronics stack exchange, and solar/battery installation guides so you can steal it if the neighbors roof.
Funny thing is we lost both those right before the pandemic and are now living with and caring for the remaining parent who’s losing his mind.
We might have ended up in the same place without our child, but it’s been more fun with them than either of us imagined.
Do like Dubai (for this instance) and demand better LED bulbs too.
It took a while to find, but this comment finally got it right.
Me too, but with a possible caveat about illustrated bibles.
I used to build the internet. Now I don’t. I’m going to keep my kid off the worst of it as long as possible, but I’m gmdoing it by explaining the problems with it as he grows. So far so good, but he’s only 7 so it’s still the easy time for us. Check back in 2-3 years…
If you could figure out how to make soap from fat, you could be the clean one. Supposedly that helped the Vikings take the ladies home.
Once BLM moved toward economic injustice it would have been shut down like MLK was.
It’s a class war now more than ever, the rich people know they can get more nazi lackeys if they call it a race war though.
Ha, these were early Macs (right at the launch of System 7) there was only a few kids with these at home so I had a pretty good idea who was brining in the icons and sound files (aiff if I recall correctly). We had one at my home too btw. They were interesting computers but besides shareware and a couple game companies, they were abysmal for games. We did get a copy of Warcraft 1 and could play it over 14.4k directly dialed to the other computer lines with PC users.
Not as much as it’s taking out of the rest of us, not even close.
Same here, and now our seven year old is already a size 3, like OP.
I’m 6’3 with what I thought were fairly small feet at 10.5/11. OP’s on a whole ‘nother level, but hopefully saves a lot of money on sneakers at least!
