But if you build transit then some people will be uncomfortable and it won’t be an immediate drop-in replacement! The biggest eyeroll.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is social interaction actually enjoyable or just socially required?
6·10 hours agoI enjoy many social interactions.
Went to a concert this weekend. Chatted with the person running the merch table. Briefly chatted with a rando at the bar. Was nice.
Went to a party this weekend. Had a nice chat with some people I’d met before. Maybe came on kind of strong to the socialists in one conversation, but it was fun.
Lemmy probably isn’t going to get you a representative sample of people.

11·12 hours agoVelocity is not helpful if you’re not pointed in the right direction, and even if you are pointed in the right direction it’s not useful if you overshoot your destination.
I made this metaphor at work but management is not interested.
Giving an incompetent team AI is like giving a child a chainsaw. Maybe he’ll chop wood faster but that’s probably not all that’s going to happen.

News@lemmy.world•Farmers in Iowa are struggling in Trump’s economy, but many say they still support him
7·4 days agoI don’t want to see any more coverage of trump supporters. They are idiots. Humanizing them makes the problem worse. They follow their peer group. The only coverage should be about abandoning trump and conservatism.
It’s funny when you see job postings for where you work. I saw one for where I’m at (a ghost job, since there’s a hiring freeze) that said like “join a highly functional team”. Lady, this team can barely push code that doesn’t have syntax errors.
Side note: posting jobs with no intention to hire (aka a ghost job) should be illegal.

News@lemmy.world•Stephen Miller’s Wife Doxes Woman Behind Democrats’ “Ugly F—k” Post
23·4 days agoConservatives have always been the thin skinned ones. “Oh no black people are moving into our neighborhood we better flee and or murder them”.
Some people will believe anything if it means their in-group is good and the out-group is weak and bad. Probably the best hope for humanity is somehow channeling that trait so in-group is humanity and oh i just re-invented the end of watchmen, I think.
I gotta find a community that has more social people than anti-socisl. It’s kind of exhausting reading so much of this.

3·5 days agoThere are many possible solutions to the housing crisis, but many of them upset rich people so executing them is difficult. I meant executing the plan. Executing the rich people is also difficult, and may incidentally improve things.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Watch: Zuckerberg’s superyacht arrives in Seattle just as Meta cuts 1,400 local jobs (video in body)English
32·5 days agoIf I was a talented writer I would consider a short story about someone getting onto the medical staff just to murder Zuckerberg.
Maybe some sort of rom-com where two people have done so and they suspect each other of being corporate bootlickers, but in the end they fall in love. And murder Zuckerberg.
You could probably make it look like an accident. “I guess the LLM was having trouble reaching my account after I was deleted, so it posted everything to pastebin so I could see it there”
Still risky and a funnier fantasy than good idea.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•Pull those bootstraps a little harder.
16·6 days agoIf they are using the “unvested” assets for something, like getting a loan with them as collateral, then we should treat it as if they realized the gain.
If you use stock as collateral to get s $1mm loan, that should be treated as income.
If they then sell the stock and get taxed again… I don’t think I really care.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can I become a writer when this is the quality of my writing? Please be honest.
22·6 days agoRead more books. Read different kinds of books. Not slop on the Internet.
This prose you’ve posted feels a bit purple and forced. I personally find all the comma separated clauses excessive, but some styles do that.
Are you still in school? Take creative writing courses. They’re fun and you get feedback from peers and the (hopefully) professional teacher.

Technology@lemmy.world•'People will buy intelligence from us on a meter': ChatGPT's Sam Altman's AI vision worries criticsEnglish
7·6 days agoZitron’s point that management are stupid is really important. They don’t know what they’re talking about. They don’t do any work!
You laugh, but this is genuinely how the majority of managers and executives think and act, and now they have a special chatbot that can fart out functional-enough prototypes to convince a Business Idiot they can do anything, because executives and managers do not regularly do much work. As a result, they have little idea what work looks like other than when they look over your shoulder, which is why they wanted you back in the office, and their distance from production is why the same people who were anti-remote work are now aggressively trying to shove AI down your throat.
We are ruled by the worst fucking people.

One time I was waiting near the train station for my old man to pick me up, and a kid thought I was homeless and offered me money. Confusing for everyone. Not homeless. Just had a gross beard and thrift store clothes.
