Yeah, on one hand I want her to stay this age for ever, on the other hand, it’s been so cool seeing her grow…

Yup, becoming and being a dad. Five years so far and it’s just been getting better and better.
I’d be flying on that for weeks :-)

Technology@lemmy.world•The Paris Auto Show is full of interesting cars Americans can’t haveEnglish
4·1 day agoI love the looks of both of these, they’re brilliant, just had a new Twingo behind me on my drive home today. My guess is that these appeal to my generation who were kids when things like the original Renault 5 were around. My dad drove us around in a Renault 4 when we were kids…

1·3 days agoYup, at this point I’d rather go with a cheap chinese fitness tracker than anything from ‘don’t be evil wait no fuck that let’s make money’ Google.

4·3 days agoThis should be illegal for politicians, honestly.
I run UptimeKuma for monitoring a couple of things, but honestly, I’m pretty much my only user and my homelab is independent of the regular home network, so I don’t really care too much. I’ve been considering some simple log monitoring… when I get around to it :-)

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•The worst part about the AI art discussion are the humans.

3·7 days agoYeah, I know, I was thinking more along the lines of the Distrowatch popularity ranking of which specific pages get the most hits (and Gemtoo pretty low down these days).

Technology@lemmy.world•Gentoo Needs Your Help! Several Sponsors Have Pulled OutEnglish
13·7 days agoI wonder what the number of users is various distros. I used Gentoo on my desktop around 15-20 years ago and really loved it, but now I prefer vanilla Debian. I think Arch took over a large part of the Gentoo user base.
Can’t wait for the Milwakee vs Dewalt vs Makita exoskeleton discussions.

Technology@lemmy.world•Retailers are pulling back from self-checkout after years of theft, errors, and questionable time savingsEnglish
7·8 days agoAt this point I find the errors are pretty rare and much prefer self-checkout, mainly because it’s faster, and as you put it, I often don’t care for peopling.
I moved from sysadmin to technical pre-sales a few years ago and I’m happy with the move. Though honestly I enjoyed being a sysadmin as well - from my experiences it’s more the work environment and the collegues than the actual work you do that makes or breaks a job.

Pretty solid for various handicaps and such.

1·11 days agoI think creating art is a goal onto itself and it’s something people will do regardless of AI. Like, if I like to write, the act of writing is the important part, more than the end result. Similar for music, movies, etc. For all the ai generated slop that’s out there, there will always be that person who enjoys picking up a paintbrush and going to town.

Any plans for an iOS app?
