  • arby’s has a bad rap, likely because of internet chatter funded by competitors, but they were the first mainstream franchise to introduce the curly fry to the world. this may seem farfetched, but when those delightful arby’s trademarked curly fries hit the street, you couldn’t just go to the local supermarket and buy a bag of curly fries–it was arby’s or nothing. and we loved those funky, spicy, intricately curled potatoes; we were as red with passion as the color of their always crispy exterior.

it became a tradition in my friend circle to indulge in this culinary experiment that would soon become one of the norms of american cuisine; we were pioneers as much as laura ingalls wilder was but our place in history has been paved over by applebees locations serving you inferior fries.

there was an arby’s in my local mall right next to the arcade, and my friend and i would indulge in savory roast beef sandwiches and curly fries, always with a generous amount of horsey sauce for that extra kick you’d only find at arby’s.

without arby’s training a generation of young men/women to appreciate spice, you wouldn’t have dozens of thai/mexican/halal joints in your area in 2026.

this is just something to think about–i’m not bragging or making a huge fuss.

men aren’t even allowed to work out together without having their sexuality questioned. god forbid we actually become–gasp–friends with each other! and if that happens, it’s apparently only to concoct right-wing plots and figure out clever ways to harass women.

meanwhile, a women’s only space is supposedly heaven on earth, even though they’ll all be gossiping and backstabbing each other for no reason.

  • reddit is 100% compromised for all things. all of culture is compromised.

go on /movies/ and post genuine criticism of the industry and the post will be flooded with dozens of comments with the same canned responses to deflect criticism. it’s been like that for years.

the tv guide in the 80s and 90s was more scathing that anything you’ll see out of professional journalism these days.

  • i had an exclusive tour of a preserve in the congo because my sister was dating this guy who worked there (she loves BBC for some reason), and i met a few gorillas up close and personal. you’re never gonna believe this one, but one of them (her name was gretchen) shared a peach with me because she was full, and while i was eating it–are you ready?–she wrapped one arm around me in a warm embrace; that soft exterior gave way to a burst of sugary nectar that tasted as sweet as anything out of a factory with 50g of sugar, including coca cola and little debbie.

but it was the love that made it so sweet.

i’ve never even felt that kind of unconditional love out of my children; that kind of love that’s sprouted from seeds planted by a hand with a deep understanding of the human condition, with all of its pains and glories; you don’t need the cosmos when you’re so in touch with the ragged soil of earth.

my son and daughter told me they hate me because i wouldn’t buy them a ps5 and this was after i built a totally modern gaming rig and sprung for the best graphics card and a 4tb SSD that they refuse to fill up all the way because piracy is immoral. but they wanted to play the new persona, and i love them, so i bought them the ps5 and they haven’t changed their attitude. now they want veja sneakers even though the new balance t500 has a sleeker silhouette, a timeless vintage style and costs $100 less.

i still think of getchen from time to time and how she had a better figure than my wife.

men pay attention to women they get roasted; men ignore women and they get roasted.

it’s almost like there’s a battle of the sexes going on that’s tipped one way because nobody dares speak out on the men’s side because they’ll get labeled an incel or ‘part of the problem.’

neither of those women are worth paying attention to.

  • costs that much to do nothing lol.

the clips i saw from those hearings are embarrassing and sum up everything wrong with our milquetoast government.

if this guy deserves to be in the position he’s in then ask him to name at least 10 valid reasons that the iran ‘war’ is more important than feeding poverty stricken american children. i put war in parenthesis since iran is incapable of fighting back since we’re 6k miles away.

as a bonus question ask him how long it’d take to drive a ford mustang that distance @ full throttle when considering an unlimited tank of gas. should be a cakewalk for someone in that position of power.

  • to play devil’s advocate: if i want 1990-2005 era graphics i’d rather just play games from that era because they were better.

i want GOOD AAA games in 2026, just like i want good hollywood blockbusters in 2026, just like i want good pop music in 2026.

i don’t want to spend 5485080485 hours sorting through garbage to find a $2 gem. anyone over 40 knows this pain; zoomers are in denial and make memes like this to justify their pathetic lives and smugly look down on everyone who isn’t willing to go the distance for a fleeting experience that’s lacking in comparison to some crappy dos game from 35 years ago, like martian memorandum.

  • i’ve never been terrified of anything, except a fox. i watched that episode of x-files that featured the chupacabra and then encountered a fox out in the wild–you can imagine this loss of suburban innocence if you think hard about it and use your imagination. now, a typical fox looks nothing like a mexican goatsucker (maybe if it was bulked up with cans of goya black beans and had bigger teeth) but it put the scare into me because i had only encountered the occasional groundhog and stray cat at night; back then you didn’t see too many bums around.

one of those stray cats used to come around a lot and i named it ‘sugar’ because it was stark white and that song fly was on the radio a lot, the one by that band sugar ray. and after it hung around for awhile (i would leave out bush’s baked beans in a tupperware container because i felt bad) it became part of the family. i renamed it ‘yeti’ because i thought sugar was too homoerotic but that’s for another post.

  • not a leftist or a tankie but america has probably caused more distress to immigrant women in the last year than north korea has caused in its entire existence.

think of the pain of every immigrant wife/mother/daughter in america as either they or their loved ones have been hauled away to who knows where.

really weird pearl clutching going on here.

  • reminder that this image is how the future was always portrayed in sci-fi films other than the shitty dystopian ones like robocop.

the reality is that we just get ratty 50s-90s suburbs mingled with modern suburbs that couldn’t be bothered to leave in some vegetation (and that are built to lower standards), with the occasional cybertruck buzzing by (either driven by a guy with a beard who flips houses or the owner of a chinese run nail salon), on potholed terrain that your city claims it can’t fix despite OKing a bunch of casinos 10 years ago to raise tax revenue.

then when you go and buy a bag of doritos, now $6, full of air and with a quarter of the seasoning on the chip than there was 10 years ago. “at least the wildfire smoke can’t get in there,” i think to myself, as i swipe through tinder matches, all fat.
