Pakistan has launched attacks on “multiple targets” across India, according to the media wing of Pakistan’s military.

In a statement, Pakistan said it has unleashed Operation Bunyan ul Marsoos (Solid Wall of Steel) in response to what it calls “continuous provocation” by India.

“Multiple targets in this operation are being engaged all across India,” the statement added.

Pakistan’s military said it used medium-range Fateh missiles to strike a missile storage facility and airbases in Pathankot and Udhampur.

The AP news agency said loud explosions have been heard in Indian-controlled Kashmir, in the disputed region’s two big cities of Srinagar and Jammu, and the garrison town of Udhampur.

Meanwhile, an Indian military source told Reuters that India has launched air operations in Pakistan, although no further details were given.

Pakistan’s military posted footage on X showing missiles being fired from what appeared to be a mobile launcher.

Do we have a good instance for tangible rumors? Major media is so stale that if it was bread you could use it as a weapon, and anything on reddit is brigaded by both sides. I was hoping Institute for the Study of War would start daily updates, but they seem set on staying on Ukraine and Iran for now. Any help appreciated, because this is a pile of fertilizer soaked in diesel and both sides are throwing grenades at it.

If this escalates into a all out war I’m curious to see whose side the average Lemmy user will be taking. I tried doing some research into the history of this conflict and it seems so messy that from my point of view pretty much both sides are to blame.

      India.

Modi is bad, but it’s still a democracy while Pakistan is literally a fascist junta founded on genocide while India is a multicultural nation who has religious tolerance in their constitution.

As an atheist, Pakistan is the opposite of everything I believe in.

Not counting all their terrorism over the decades including supporting the taliban and bin ladin.

Course, would prefer if modi died in a fire, but even at its worst Pakistan can’t compare.

Inb4 .mls start screaming that Pakistan is the true victim and India is worse than Israel, which is ironic because Pakistan literally either expelled or exterminated all their Hindus at the partition.

Oh, right, that’s over. Well, props for knowing when you don’t know enough to have an opinion on something. That’s rare on the internet.

The sides have been changing a bit with Pakistan v china relations and India supporting Russia during the war. It’s a bit complex. Pakistan still has laws that give the death sentence for apostasy, but while India doesn’t the ultra nationalist Hindu party under Modi have been harassing and killing Muslims, so they are effectively doing the same thing. The US has been a bit cool towards Pakistan after the afghan war finally ended. But they still sell them lots of high end military equipment, much better quality than the Soviet slop India has.

I encourage you to read up on the history. It’s quite interesting.

      IMO

Modi is Trump light, but Pakistan is led by a combination of ignorance, misogyny, and incompetence that is geopolitically destabilizing.

The ultimate colprit is British colonialism, and the way the border is drawn after they left

        They didn’t draw the border.

Gandhi wanted to keep it unified, but the Muslims weren’t willing, so they drove out all the Hindus, and exterminated any who were in the way.

That’s my intrepretation of it as well but that doesn’t really offer any solutions or clarity to the current situation. In most conflicts like this you can always go even further back in history to justify your cause.

Yeah they caused the problem but they won’t be able to solve it at this point. It’s not like they could just go and redraw the lines.

Mean people like you never cease to amaze me. You could’ve just shared your personal view on the subject, and we might’ve had an insightful discussion - but instead, your first instinct is to insult a complete stranger who openly admitted they’re not very well informed on the topic. We’ve literally never even interacted before, and you come at me with “fuck offs” out of nowhere. I genuinely struggle to express how mind-boggling this kind of unwarranted and completely unnecessary online hostility is to me.

So, do people want the footballer turned president turned didn’t sign the right form when getting married so they are now in jail for life person back? Or is a Pakistani military junta still what the USA wants?
