Sat 14 Jun 2025 13.08 EDT"The New York Times reported that an internal email was sent on Thursday by Tatum King, a senior official with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice), to regional department leaders at Homeland Security Investigations, directing them to stop workplace immigration enforcement actions unless related to criminal investigations.
“Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels,” King wrote in the guidance, according to the outlet. "
Isn’t this an admission that immigrants, yes even undocumented ones, are a key critical piece in our economy? That getting rid of them hurts those that are not immigrants too? Most importantly, our way of life which we so enjoy cannot exist if they are not a part of it. Immigrants are not our enemies, as we are also a nation of immigrants.
If they really wanted to crack down on immigrants in the workforce, even at the height of the “they took our jerbs” hysteria, they could have just gone after the business owners that hired the immigrants. Turns out that would have hurt white people with money, though, so they didn’t pursue that method for some reason.
Same reason in why certain folks were appalled by the Mexican flags being flown within the United States as seen at LA protests, but don’t seem to have any concern during St. Patrick’s Day parades with the Irish flag.
See if you can spot the difference.
Yes, but I’d view it through the limited lens of empathy-lacking Republicans.
I’d like to propose a new adage: Let’s call it Trump’s Razor: Where Republicans are concerned, never attribute to principles what can more easily be explained by corruption.
Most likely the raids are starting to affect someone in the in-group, be it a hotel magnate or factory-farming donor. They complained and it’s stopping. I don’t expect this is the result of philosophical reflection.
I second Trump’s Razor, this is an easy way to cut through the bullshit
I’d bet it has more to do with optics and political strategy
