Like, do snakes even know youre their friend? From the people ive seen, they are still trying to kill you and wrap themselves around your neck, so why do people still keep them and talk to them as pets?
My guinea pig still sometimes runs away from me, but she at least likes me and and my voice and just stops eating if I dont speak to her every day to the point that I needed to force feed her nutrient slop, she lets me cuddle her, etc
And snakes are just like: I will kill you the second I see you
I had a Ball python and I’m pretty sure he recognized my scent. He’d perk up when I’d get near his enclosure.
He was about five feet long and he’d just wrap around one of my arms and I’d go around the house and do some chores (moving laundry, putting dishes away) one handed.
He was easy to maintain and some folks would ask to come over when I was going to feed him. (Thawed dead rats/mice, no live food.)
OP is making wrong assumptions. Yes snakes have reptile brains but they aren’t trying to kill you. It’s not like they can do much with you once you’re dead, unless you have an anaconda in which case you have my full respect.
I have a California Kingsnake (5ft long). Most of the time she’s furniture, except the one day a week I feed her (sometimes it’s even less than that). Sometimes I take her out of the tank and sit with her on the computer. Yes she’ll sometimes wrap herself around my neck, but it’s just for anchoring. She’s not squeezing to kill, and even if she did try to squeeze I can overpower her. She’s cute, she does silly things.
Snakes kinda just exist.
Oh she’s a pretty one! I’ve never kept reptiles and it’s wild to me how much less maintainance they are compared to mammals. Like it’s probably easier to mess up if you’re inexperienced but just the day to day chores seem a lot less involved. I’d like to keep a snake some day. It’d have to be a garter or egg eater or anything that doesn’t require pinkies though. Don’t have the stomach for keeping those around 😅
That’s not reptiles as a whole. Chameleons are pretty finicky from what I hear. But most snakes are pretty ez

I can raise you spiders.
They are basically just advanced plants, which is why people never keep just one. (We ended at around 50 at some point, had an entire room wall-to-wall with terrariums).
They look pretty and are very rarley fun to observe.
