I may be wrong here, but I think the tenant is trying to report an invasive pest infestation, and idiot landlord instantly assumes they are pets.
Like uh, lets go full Dale Gribble:

Not 100% sure about the precise accuracy of this, but it seems like various kinds of geckos are fairly common in the southern US, either more arid climate variants, or tropical/subtropical
These lizards are everywhere in the south. There’s rivers of them sometimes.
You just grab them and put them back outside if they get in. They’re a zero issue species, except for maybe the tails they leave behind.
There’s also no evidence this meme has a landlord in it. Anyone could be talking on the left side. (It’s a joke, it’s not a serious photo)
I would like to see a river of geckos some time in my lifr, that sounds fascinating haha!
As to whether or not its serious… I dunno, sure yeah, could be fake, could be real, no real way of knowing, but interacting with an asshat of a landlord has been a pretty common occurence in my life, seems at least plausible to me.
Yeah, those are Mediterranean house geckos, and they’re everywhere in the south. They’re not that hard to catch and release outside.
Ah, I’m an elf from the woodlands (rainy part of PNW), not familiar with them personally.
I did once trek east toward Mordor and freeze up and slowly retreat from an aggregated rattlesnake in the badlands… can’t say I ever saw a gecko though.
… But I have seen a good number of newts back home. They can be … mildly neurotoxic, but they thankfully tend to stay in their bogs and such.
You mostly see them in the evening on houses near light sources (because bugs). I used to always enjoy watching them on my bathroom and kitchen windows as a kid. Now I get to save the babies from my cats on a regular basis.
It’s fairly uncommon for adults to make it inside, so I’m betting OP’s biggest issue is an insect infestation.
Those look like common house geckos, I don’t think that species hurts anything people care about and they catch bugs anyway.
No pet!
Also rent due tomorrow
Yep but they lay eggs in most unusual places, learned it the hard way by trying to remove a bulb from its holder and two tiny egg landing on my face
That doesn’t sound unusual, it’s probably the heat they wanted
It’s not that crazy, geckos are well known to be super into egg based bukkake.
And they’re adorable
