U.S. tariffs on Brazilian goods jumped to 50% on Wednesday, Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva told Reuters in an interview that he saw no room for direct talks now with U.S. President Donald Trump that would likely be a “humiliation.”

Brazil is not about to announce reciprocal tariffs, he said. Nor will his government give up on cabinet-level talks. But Lula himself is in no rush to ring the White House.

“The day my intuition says Trump is ready to talk, I won’t hesitate to call him,” Lula said in an interview from his presidential residence in Brasilia. “But today my intuition says he doesn’t want to talk. And I won’t humiliate myself.”

Wow, someone that is actually acting like a world leader instead of just bending over in advance and making a fool out of themselves.

Watching people like Keir Starmer around Trump is painful and I hope he loses sleep over how much of an embarrassment he is. And if I remember correctly, Starmer literally bent over for him at the G7 summit. Or when Starmer was talking during Trump’s visit last week and Trump literally said “enough” while he was talking and Starmer just shut up.

Edit: I was wrong about the second one. Apparently it was back in February and in context it was actually addressed towards the reporter that asked a question and not Starmer. See? Propaganda works both ways. :)
