Assuming this is true that is… real fucked. But also? I kind of get it. I am not as familiar with Wuchang’s story (or even timeline) but there has been an increasing push for adaptations of historical events over the years and that gets messy.

Like, I love to joke around that Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin starred the Bisexual Icon Sakamoto Ryoma because… it totally did. But I also fully get that it is “weird” that you can romance a lot of historical figures and even their partners, often in a fairly non-ethical non-monogamous manner. And… if it wasn’t the Bakumatsu I might even care (INCREDIBLY fascinating time period that is almost directly responsible for most of the atrocities of Imperial Japan).

Mostly I just find it fascinating that video games are finally realizing what historical fiction (print and video) learned years ago: Just because you can write about beating the shit out of Thomas Jefferson and then getting Eiffel Tower’d by Washington and Adams doesn’t… okay, actually you totally should write about that. What was my point again?

I mean, Hamilton exists. If people want to write crazy shit about historical figures or make games about them they should be able to.

There’s a 35 year old game series featuring stuff like leading Cleopatra’s army against the tyrannical rule of Theodore Roosevelt while Gandhi’s words are backed with NUCLEAR WEAPONS.
