I work in IT. There have definitely been several attacks on the quality of information available to the general public in the last few decades, but none that I would qualify as a singular “the”

Dafaq? Saddam had nothing to do with it, and a vast majority of the world knew that at the time. That’s why the bullshit WMD story was circulated as an excuse to attack, and still most of the world was dubious at best.
