I only learnt about this behaviour the other day. Walking down the road, start to cross an intersection, suddenly there is a ruckus, then I see plovers scattering while they left their chicks to hide in the grass.
I walked a way down the road and turned around to see if the chicks would be ok. Eventually the plovers returned and one went over to nurse the chicks in the middle of the footpath…

How are these birds not extinct?
Sheer ignorance.
They refuse to understand the concept of extinction.
It’s a wonder they don’t lay their eggs in the mouth of a sleeping dog.
