Belying its name, Oktoberfest always begins in September, running this year from September 20 bis October 5. As the country’s major tourist event, the annual festival, now in its 190th edition, is expected to attract at least 6 million visitors, with a record of 7.2 million set in 2023. Eliza Herbert tells us more.

Is really all you need to know. It’s a tourist trap. If you want to experience Bavarian beer culture, don’t go to the Oktoberfest. Just visit any other place in Bavaria, even Munich itself, at any other time of the year.
There is still a ton of locals going there though. Yes it’s a lot of tourists, but a lot of them are also from bavaria
