Russia on Wednesday lifted restrictions on popular children’s gaming platform Roblox, saying the company “has fully complied with Russian legal requirements aimed at ensuring user safety.” “The company has implemented a range of additional child-protection measures,” the Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Ministry said in a statement. “Roblox pledged to continue efforts to combat the spread of undesirable content on the platform,” the ministry said.

Last weekend my girlfriend’s nephew was over. He’s 10 — I think? He approaches me and asks “do you know how to buy Robux?” And I answer that Robux cost real money and ask if he has real money to pay for the Robux. He smiles like an idiot and points to his aunt.

I don’t think banning games that use predatory tactics on children is bad, au contraire, I say do it, or force the platform to comply with laws that protect kids from stuff like this.

Now, you’re an adult that enjoys going over the limit of your credit card to buy Fortnite skins or whatever the heck you nice kids do nowadays? I say more power to you! But getting them at a young age when they don’t even make their own money? Sounds predatory to me?

Edit: not saying that I agree with the bullshit reasons Russia used to ban the game.
