If you asked all sitting British MPs to say when the European Council is next meeting in Brussels, I doubt that more than a handful could give you the right answer. In fact, I wonder how many could immediately tell you what the European Council is.
My limited experience on Europe-oriented online forums — which I suspect are disproportionately populated with internationalist people who are generally more familiar with the EU as an institution than most — suggests that a fairly scanty percentage of people in EU members have a handle on the difference between the European Council, the Council of the European Union, and the Council of Europe.
Or the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Justice.
Or the President of the European Council, the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Parliament, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the President of the Council of the European Union.
It’s kinda confusing terminology-wise, as things stand.
EDIT: Not to mention that the first three presidents are all Presidents of the European Union.
I don’t think UK rejoining EU is politically possible within another decade, and that goes for both sides.
What I do think is that cooperation between EU and UK will increase gradually, meaning that UK will have to adapt to EU without having the influence they would have had if they had remained a member of EU.All countries think mainly about themselves, but if there were a World Cup for solipsism, the British would effortlessly carry off the trophy.
I’m guessing they mean among all European countries, because outside Europe USA would beat every European country by several lengths.
