Genocide. He should feel strongly about genocide and act uppn those feelings. Curse him for a coward. He is rich, he would be fine. Children are dying in misery and he gets to decide he is neutral. No.
You are acting like the phrase “I don’t blame him” has no meaning. That is specifically what everyone is replying to, and your justifying it.
It’s like saying that while you disagree personally, you don’t blame the justice dept for not prosecuting a child rapist because it would be politically difficult for them.
Buddy, it’s not my job to tell other people what they should think. I said I disagreed with him, that’s the maximum I feel like I should care about someone else’s opinion.
You sand you think musicians should out pressure on power, but also said you don’t blame him for trying to be neutral.
That implies 2 things.
One, that even if you don’t agree with his stance, staying neutral is somehow still an idealistic endeavour. In this case, it’s greed, not ideals. It has been pointed out by numerous people that he has taken sides in other world events, like Ukraine. It also negates his actions to drop Macklemore under pressure. That is not staying neutral.
Two, it also implies that there is an option to stay neutral when genocide is concerned. We all should be against it. In fact, as a species, we have made laws and treaties specifically about it, through the UN.
So, I understand what you’re saying, but it doesn’t hold water. You’re trying to both sides the issue, in the same way he did. He’s rightly getting criticised for it, including partly by you, but also let off by you.
So in order to tell me I’m wrong you need to read into my actual statements and say they imply multiple things which I did not say and don’t agree with. I don’t blame him for being neutral, you can pick apart my wording all you want but I explained my exact feelings over and over again elsewhere in the thread, he wants to appeal to all people who like his music which is generally speaking what most celebrities do (aside from ones who get their celebrity status from culture wars). Understanding does not equal endorsing. It’s called cognitive empathy, I see his perspective and disagree with it. You can try to push that as somehow defending him all you want but that is you choosing to interpret my very exact specific words differently.
Statements have meaning within context and also other details can be inferred. That’s how communication andlanguage works. If you don’t get that, there is no point in continuing.
As so many other people have discocered conversing with you. Strange hill to die on, but it must be hard to do the mental gymnastics to excuse genocide.
Let’s try a more blatant example for clarification, imagine you said the following about someone who murdered his wife:
“personally I don’t blame him for killing his bitch of a wife, although I disagree”
the issue here is that you, like Sheeran, seem to think that staying neutral on genocide is being neutral even though you clearly know better than that… what you said armounts to “I would have done the same as Sheeran, if I were in his shoes”
You are putting a whole lot of words I did not say in my mouth. I said I understood why Sheeran was staying neutral, he’s trying to play the whole " I’m an artist for all people" blah blah bullshit. And I said I disagreed with it. It’s really common for musicians to do that, because they want ALL fans. One of the reasons I like Macklemore is that he doesn’t do that and is willing to put his career on the line for it. The fact that just trying to say “I understand why someone did something even if I don’t like it” still gets bombarded is pretty fucked up.
You claimed that Ed is acting neutral like artist normally do . I wrote about how he is taking sides. You call that whataboutism? Accusing other of whataboutism is hypocrites favorite technique
I cannot say this loud enough, as you aren’t the only person who needs to hear this. You bring wrong isn’t the other person doing a whataboutism. It’s you being wrong.
You are putting a whole lot of words I did not say in my mouth
Correct, and I warned in advance I was doing that to exemplify the point… I even warned I was being exaggerated about it
It’s really common for musicians to do that, because they want ALL fans.
Again, the issue here is that not taking a side in a genocide is taking the side for genocide
another example: no reasonable person would judge you if a bar fight start between two giants and you decide to not get involved… however, any reasonable person would judge you if you see a grown man beating a toddler and you don’t even call 911
The fact that just trying to say “I understand why someone did something even if I don’t like it” still gets bombarded is pretty fucked up.
Again, it’s not a normal thing you are understanding from Sheeran here… in my example above, I don’t think most people would be chill if I said “I disagree with beating the crap oot of toddlers, but I understand letting it happen and moving on”
Funny how you cropped out the part right after where I said I disagreed with him doing that.
Right, but you don’t blame him. You should blame him for his cowardice.
Well apparently unlike you I don’t think it’s my personal province to make decisions for other people or tell them how they should feel about things.
Genocide. He should feel strongly about genocide and act uppn those feelings. Curse him for a coward. He is rich, he would be fine. Children are dying in misery and he gets to decide he is neutral. No.
I agree with all of that and never claimed otherwise, God fucking forbid I have the maturity to understand his motives without agreeing with it.

It’s like saying that while you disagree personally, you don’t blame the justice dept for not prosecuting a child rapist because it would be politically difficult for them.
No. It’s child rape. You blame them.
You make it look like it is subjective but it is not
Buddy, it’s not my job to tell other people what they should think. I said I disagreed with him, that’s the maximum I feel like I should care about someone else’s opinion.
Being critical of peoples thought and actions is not telling them how to think. It’s telling them how you think.
I literally said I disagreed with Sheeran, explain to me what level of being critical you expect from me?
You sand you think musicians should out pressure on power, but also said you don’t blame him for trying to be neutral.

I think it is everybody job to completely object genocide
I think that’s different though bud…

He rightfully took side in Russian war of aggression of Ukraine. Stop with your bullshit excuses
Only if you promise to stop with your bullshit whataboutisms.
You claimed that Ed is acting neutral like artist normally do . I wrote about how he is taking sides. You call that whataboutism? Accusing other of whataboutism is hypocrites favorite technique
You brought up Ukraine. And you don’t think that’s whataboutism. Ok buddy.
You claimed that Ed do not take sides and I brought the example of Ukraine which prove that he do take sides . That is not whataboutism
So your argument is he has a different opinion about 2 different things and I’m an asshole for disagreeing with one of them.
I cannot say this loud enough, as you aren’t the only person who needs to hear this. You bring wrong isn’t the other person doing a whataboutism. It’s you being wrong.

Funny how you contradicted your self and you’re upset people point it out.
