This is why commas are important. Is it:

    • Diary of a Killed Cop, City Activist to play role…
    • Diary of a Killed Cop City Activist, to play role…
    • Diary of a Killed Cop, City, Activist to play role…

‘Cop city’ is a police training center they’re trying to build in a forest near Atlanta. People have been protesting its construction; the police shot one of the protesters back in January when they raided the camp.

Read it as “Diary of a killed ‘Cop City’ activist to play role”

The headline is grammatically correct and clear without commas.

None of those. The original is fine if you know the context. If you don’t, you can read the article and find out.

There’s no such thing as ‘fine if you know the context’…the title is supposed to provide the context.

The title is supposed to summarize the article, which it does.
