Nancy Pelosi fretted during a meeting with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that "Abolish ICE" had been "injected into American political discourse by the Russians," the book says.
“I thought things would get worse,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in another text cited in the book. “I thought a lot of my misery was due to leadership more broadly having a thing against me. But … my life has completely transformed. It’s crazy. And it’s that that made me realise it was kind of just [Pelosi] the whole time.”
“Senior members talk to me, [committee] chairs are nice to me, people want to work together,” the congresswoman added. “I’m shocked. I couldn’t even get floor time before.”
Very interesting. Like AOC, I thought that she’d be in trouble under Jeffries, who has a reputation in NYC as someone who is really confrontational with the left, whereas Pelosi is seen as at least sort of progressive. I wonder if the difference has something to do with age - Pelosi is probably more progressive for her age cohort than Jeffries is for his, but she’s just so ancient.
Pelosi could whip votes like no other. Dems had razor thin margins and she’d make sure shit still got done.
I love AOC but it makes perfect sense that one of the most liberal members was less happy under Pelosi. She forced compromise from the most liberal and most conservative members of the democratic party because otherwise they’d never have the votes to do anything at all.
Look at the Republicans struggling with a few votes to spare. Pelosi had that shit on lock.
Democrats do have all the votes locked in even without Pelosi.
Practically all the dems are smart, intelligent, reasonable people who are capable of compromise. Even the most conservative or progressive ones. They don’t need someone to stand there with a whip in order to get things done.
Maybe a few decades ago they have still behaved like a herd of cattle (as the republicans still do), with a whole bunch of idiots among them who wandered off at every chance against their own good. But those times are gone. Pelosi however got stuck in that loop and can’t realize the world and democratic party has changed.
Pelosi looks like something that would shamble out of the darkness in a horror movie and she isn’t the only one. They could kill the power in the Capitol Building during an evening vote (a last minute vote to push back a shutdown for a few weeks, for example) and then film a new Night of the Living Dead movie.
Edit: Sorry, I did not see how people could misunderstand this. I was referring to how half of congress is old enough to be virtually the walking dead, not so much saying Pelosi is ugly or something. She, and a lot of them, are past the average life expectancy in the US and should have retired years ago.
Also, her obvious corruption. Her and her husband make waaaaaaaay above average on the stock market due to her insider knowledge. But I’m sure that never affects her policy positions.
I don’t think that joke was about women’s looks or even denigrating to old people, I think it was about highlighting the inappropriateness of people that old still working. I feel like the joke was kinda analogous to a joke about toddlers running a DMV, which would not be a joke denigrating toddlers.
Yes, that was what I was going for. I wouldn’t ever call an old lady ugly, so I didn’t even see how my comment could be misinterpreted. In hindsight, I think I should have quoted the “ancient” bit from the comment I was responding to.

In this particular scenario, it likely doesn’t hurt that AOC represents parts of The Bronx and Queens.

We need to quit judging women on their looks. Judge her on her policies.
I was referring to how half of them look like they have one foot in the grave and should have retired already.
Gotcha and totally agree. I’m sorry I misunderstood your point.
I think by the down votes, it’s clear that it was my fault for not being more clear. Thanks, though. :)

Thanks!
I honestly hope the corrupt bitch rots in hell
Hell is for horses.
Hell is other people!
