Salad Fingers wasn’t just strange, it was art. Here’s how it's still influencing the ‘weird part of YouTube’ 2 decades on

Do you remember the bizarre Salad Fingers videos from the early 2000s? They inspired a whole genre of genre-less online videos.

There is a discussion on Hacker News, but feel free to comment here as well.

“Caaarl! There is a dead human in our house!”, anyone?

I’ve seen a blogpost calling those videos as “poorly animated weird-shock” (PAWS) and “hurhurhur”. Curiously as he talks about what he claims to be a deconstruction of the genre:\

RatBoy Genius Dreams Minecraft. It has a lot of the same odd elements as Salad Fingers, minus the unnerving ones, and an actual story behind.

Salad Fingers got me into Boards of Canada, one of my favorite bands/artists/whatever those guys consider themselves.
