Far more than solar and wind can. Solar and wind by themselves will in no way overtake fossil fuel power plants fast enough. Nuclear energy would be a great replacement until then.

It’s not a competition. You can and should do both. Putting all your eggs in renewables is just as shortsighted as not using them
