The sneakiest thing the GOP has been doing is lining up people to play ball in order to take these positions. Like a lottery, almost. Get enough of these assholes in a room and see who will grovel enough to get appointed. They are especially focused on younger people to keep them in place as long as possible.
It’s been happening since Obama was first elected, and hit peak during Trump, and is just another battle line being drawn in the politicizing of everything in this country. We need some serious reforms.

This is much harder though, since a lot of these are lifetime appointments.
