Both Robert Downey and Gwyneth Paltrow are Hollywood born and raised. Early in the movie, there’s a three way conversation between them and Agent Coulson that’s pure 1940’s screwball comedy material. Every time I see it, I imagine Cary Grant and Kate Hepburn running those lines.
That last fact warms my heart immensely. I love Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, and it’s so refreshing to hear “they really enjoyed doing that”. Usually the “fun fact” you hear about movies you love is that everyone was awful and miserable.
It’s a great movie; an adventure and a great romance rolled into one.
One of the stories about it is that the male star and the director only drank whisky while they were on location in Africa. The female star was appalled by this and vowed only to drink water. Guess who got sicker?
