I bought a new phone a year ago and lost all my whatsapp messages. Are you sure she didn’t simply enable the cloud backups in the settings?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you speak another language besides ENG, are the subtitles terrible?
10·6 days agoThey’re usually fine when you have subs in a different language than the audio. Where it gets frustrating is when you’re watching something in English audio with english subs and the words in the subtitles differ from the spoken words. It happens especially often when the original Audio language is something other than English. It’s awful

News@lemmy.world•Bill Gates testifies Epstein pressured him using knowledge of his affairs
31·14 days agoI don’t think a guy like Friedrich Merz or someone like Angela Merkel or Jaques Chirac or even Barrack Obama or whatever did politics in favor of capital because they were blackmailed by a shadowy cabal of global elites with proof of their heinous sex crimes. Doing politics in favor of capital simply comes with the territory of being the leader of a capitalist state. Many of these politicians also either are part of or grew up within the capitalist class and are simply serving their own material and ideological interests.
I’m really not sure what you’re trying to say about Bernie Sanders and Zohran Mamdani either, as if the people on the Epstein list were all socialist politicians that got a little too powerful and would have paved the way for workers rights and equality were it not for the evil global cabal that enticed them to diddle kids and then blackmailed them to do a 180 on their otherwise honest and humanitarian views.
I don’t think it really matters much for the existence of capitalism that some rich people like to spend their time raping people. If so and since you’re saying this has been happening since around the 60s, how do you explain the existence of capitalism before 1939? Before 1914? And even before that? Is it all built on mfers getting blackmailed for diddling kids or are there maybe other incentives for people in power to enable the unfethered accumulation of capital?

News@lemmy.world•Bill Gates testifies Epstein pressured him using knowledge of his affairs
34·14 days agoSo Jeffrey Epstein blackmailed politicians to ensure their absolute loyalty to the “capitalist class” which is also in charge of mossad and the cia? How do you explain the existence of other capitalist states whose politicians don’t diddle kids? Or do you think they all do it secretly?
Don’t you think that a salary upwards of $10000/mo plus various lucrative side-hustles and job opportunities from lobbyism and political favors, paired with the never ending nationalist propaganda about how capitalism and liberal democracy are the ideal and most fair way to organize humanity, is enough to ensure these people’s loyalty?
The vagueness of your “critique” of capitalism and your talk about a coordinated group of people pulling the strings of the rulers of society and secret services, intentionally or not, comes off kind of antisemitic and incoherent in my opinion. (And no, I am not a Zionist or in any way foster a single positive opinion about the existence of the state of israel.)
Edit: I don’t disagree with anything that “Albbi”, the person you responded to, said in their comment though.

Technology@lemmy.world•32GB of DDR5 now costs $375 minimum — AI shortage continues to squeeze PC buildingEnglish
51·22 days agoFair enough, you could say the prices are “inflated”. There’s a big difference though between inflation as the devaluation of currency that’s been slowly happening “forever” and inflation in the sense of a guy selling shit simply racking up his prices and putting the surplus in his greedy little pockets. Of course you can choose to use the exact same word for both cases if you wish

128·22 days agoThe inflation is real.
109 USD in August 2024 is equivalent in buying power to $115.31 today. $33 from September 2025, adjusted for inflation, would be about $33.84 today.
This has absolutely nothing to do with inflation

81·23 days agoI live in central europe but still would never think twice about leaving the house or entering a tram with a knife in my backpack. I think I actually do still have a swiss army knife in there somewhere that I’ve been carrying literally anywhere I go for the last couple years.
To me it’s a little strange to compare knives, which are primarily tools, to firearms that are from start to finish designed for the sole purpose of killing and injuring living things. My life would be worse without knives, I use them every single day. But I’ve never required a gun for anything

51·23 days agoYeah but I’m pretty sure I can also just put a knife in my pocket and leave my house without doing anything illegal in the process, so I’m wondering why there needs to be an exemption.
Edit: Also pretty sure everyone is forbidden from using knives offensively not just Sikhs

243·23 days agoDigwa stabbed Nowak with a knife he said he was permitted to carry due to exemptions for Sikhs to have ceremonial daggers.
I don’t understand this, isn’t anyone “permitted” to carry a knife wherever they want to in public? Why do they call it an exemption
Edit: Since I’m guessing the answer is “not in the UK” my follow up question would be how do people buy knives there? Do they have to dodge the cops on their way home from the store?

11·23 days ago70k is 3,5k/mo after taxes in my country. Doesnt really matter where you live with that you could be paying 2500 in rent and still be loaded for the month. Look all I’m saying is this O’Leary guy is a fucking prick and most people never see 70k in their lifetime

Political Memes@lemmy.world•I had leftover tacos for lunch...
311·23 days agoIt’s insulting that this guy says 70k like it’s a low salary (for “kids” as he says). I make a quarter of that. I also know a lot more retired old people who never made close to that in their lifetime than ones who did make that much
And if I did make that much it would still feel insulting because I’m pretty sure most people making 70k can easily afford weekly $28 lunches…
Edit: Just saw that this motherfucker is wearing two expensive watches on the photo… absolutely repulsive person

Yes we have a 40 hour work week (germany). Standard working hours are 8.5 hours a day, which includes 8 hours of paid work and a mandatory 30 minute unpaid break (So it’s really a 42,5h week). I have never heard of a 2 hour lunch ever from anyone I know that works a regular job. On the contrary, many people simply work through their 30 minute break (Which is against the law but it can be difficult to enforce and you get singled out and bullied by management very quickly if you start acting up about it in many low income jobs)
Housing prices have been skyrocketing for decades and many people are struggling to pay for rent and groceries because wages have been stagnating when adjusted for cost of living at the same time. The welfare state has been and continues to be gutted in most parts of europe under the guise of saving money for war efforts or the covid crisis or climate change or whatever issue is available to justify it in the current moment.
Police are increasingly militarized and overly aggressive although they kill less people (Unjust killings are still happening all the time though).
Censorship is also ever increasing. For example targeting all shades of the “Pro-Palestinian” political movements, or incidents where people get their house raided etc. for posting unfavorable remarks about politicians on the internet. There are also incidents of courts making overly harsh judgements to create examples out of cases against leftist lawbreakers to send a signal to the populous.
It’s the same shit over here, just slightly milder. As a poor person in europe these posts read like either pure propaganda or uneducated statements made by comfortably wealthy european workers and small business owners or american tourists. I think it’s sad that being slightly better than the USA seems to be enough for so many people to proudly support all the deplorable shit that is happening in their own home countries.
