This seems true on the face of it, and it is definitely worth trying to get further left democrat candidates, but it seems to me that they have to believe that trying to capture said 5% won’t cause them to lose more in the process, especially if they can never “earn my vote” for much of said 5% no matter what they do.

FWIW, I agree it’s not a binary, all or nothing situation. That said, circumstances change constantly (e.g., management no longer allowing remote work, divorce with joint custody of kids, or infinite other possibilities) that make a previously workable situation no longer work. I think the parent poster is correct, and the circumstances enabling relocation (including, but not limited to money) cannot be presumed.

Not to mention that living close to where the jobs are can be prohibitively expensive.

Not sure why? Isn’t hacking/unauthorized access illegal (white hat or otherwise)? It doesn’t appear that Australia has safe harbor for such activities and has apparently prosecuted people for this in the past. Here’s an article interviewing someone who was charged with more than 50 crimes for what’s being described as the same activity (in which he expresses doubt that OpenAI will be punished as he was).

While I agree in practice (and the resultant harm is real), in theory mathematical limits exist. (And this is without appealing to the idea that humans might eventually not be limited to a single planet.)
