The naming is confusing here. In Spain the difference between AC and ‘aerotermia’ is that the second one heats water. This is the “heat pump” revolution here. Many people already use AC for heating but they have gas or electric boilers to heat water. Heatpumps are way more efficient here. When you say ‘heatpump’ you mean something that replaces a furnace? Something you plug into central heating system that heats the water and distributes it to the radiators?

Fair enough. That’s roughly 350 million people. You said 50% of people in EU live in apartments so what you said applies to about 170 million people. That’s ~1/3 of EU. I would say ~2/3 of people getting AC and/or heatpumps still counts as a revolution. But that’s nitpicking and really besides the point. Some people will not be able to upgrade, sure. Some people will install AC in their apartment and use it for heating during winter as pretty much all units they sell now do both. New buildings may also adapt to the new reality and stop installing building wide heating systems, even in the countries you listed. I think it’s obvious things will change and even if half of Europe will not be affected for now it doesn’t mean some sort of revolution is not happening.

That depends on the type of heating you’re replacing and has nothing to do with it being in an apartment or a house. I have a heatpump in an apartment.

You’re thinking about specific type of central heating that’s probably popular in your part of Europe. Europe is big, Different countries build apartments in different ways.

I think you’re forgetting about Tesla. Long before China was the competitor Tesla was kicking European carmakers’ asses and they were not even interested in responding. They ignored EV for about a decade and then when EU tried to push them by banning ICE cars they fought against it. Yes, is China beating them now but they made it really easy for them.

In my case I wanted to separate my services between the ones accessible from the internet (git. lemmy) and not (bitwarden, *arr). To do this I need 3-4 VMs. I went with proxmox for the backups: you just define retention policy and that’s it. Promox drops backups of VMs automatically keeping the right amount of old versions. If you don’t want to split your services and you’re fine with just one VM I think you can easily go with pure debian. I did have some issues with proxmox (like failing network card, it required some fiddling) so it’s not “free”. There’s some extra work to get the benefits.

And I think having everything in one VM is also fine. I’m only splitting it because I want to have some things accessible from the internet. If not I would just use docker for everything.

Vast majority of the motorcycle accidents I read about are self inflicted. Just bikers falling down on mountain roads. Yes, majority ride safely but the ones that get into accidents drive like idiots. As I said, most accidents happen on weekends during rides for fun.

I tried just using WIreguard and I struggled with with setup. When it fails to connect it’s really hard to figure out what the issue is (port forwarding on one of the routers? firewall on the server? something else?). WIth my netbird setup I’m also relying on DNS, groups and exit node setup. I think it’s just easier with a clear dashboard like the commercial tool have. Netbird is also free and I’m planning on selfhosting netmaker.

The EU mandates this system to monitor gaze fixation points. Do you know any methods of determining gaze fixation point without using a camera? So sort of sensors attached directly to driver’s eyeballs maybe?

Detecting phone use is just a tiny part of it. ADDW is about detecting distraction and drowsiness in general but they are also mandating speeding alerts. The car is supposed to monitor the speed limit and alert the driver when he’s driver above it. As you can imagine those systems work like shit and beep at you constantly, even when you drive below the speed limit. You also have mandatory lane assist and automated breaking. Nothing is required for bikes. So basically big chunk of fatal accidents are caused by people speeding for fun on country roads, lane splitting and doing other completely unnecessary things and EU is just accepting that.

So you will put in the modem before technical check and the take it out again? That’s a great idea. Let me know what car model you have and how do you remove the model. The more instructions like this we have the better.

Just change the entire computer while your at it because they may check for error codes. Make sure your custom computer will pass all security checks your car does though.

I didn’t say it’s useful or not. I said that cars have it. It’s mandatory in all new cars since 2018. If you disable it your car may not pass technical checks.

The camera processes everything internally. There some build in machine learning model. It should not communicate or send anything images outside.

Of course the problem is that it’s all closed source so you can’t verify that. Cars also call 112 now automatically in case of an accident so I suspect that ripping out your modem may cause some warning lights on your dashboard which can mean you will not pass your mandatory technical revision.

So if you rip out your modem the camera will still work but you may have other issues.
