Great, now show me the Linux ARM laptop that’s competing with MacBooks at the consumer level. You do have something that’s actively turning people away from Apple Silicon, yes?
What relevance does Linux have in this specific context? Does Linux have a marketing team? Does Linux compete on a hardware level with Apple? Is there a Linux corp we haven’t heard about that’s working with some chip manufacturer we also haven’t heard about in order to create ARM processors that can compete with Apple silicon? No? Maybe don’t shoehorn Linux into everything regardless of relevance, especially not in such a lane way.
This dude is trying to get people to think, to notice, to act, he’s trying to educate people and to help them change. Maybe don’t immediately disregard him as “not a true socialist”, maybe don’t outright jump to calling him a tankie. We’re all in this hell hole together, the least we could do is help each other out and spread the educational content, work together to give a friendly summary on our points of view, and keep moving forward.
I like his content, and I like that he’s trying, that’s my opinion on him.
I had pretty much the same experience you did. I did randomly find a reddit post with a ublock custom filter to avoid the whole “page not loading at all” thing. Ever since, I’ve had only one ubo failure that I fixed with the routine filters refresh, and dare I say youtube’s actually been getting faster for me lately? I did have that slowdown, due to their thing that prevented the page from loading, but now it’s almost like they’ve ramped down on their efforts.
Edit: I’m here to stand corrected. Fuckers are messing with any browser that’s not theirs. Add the following filter to ublock if your video pages take 5 seconds to load: www.youtube.com###+js(nano-stb, resolve(1), 5000, 0.01)
This is an asklemmy thread, not an askgunnuts thread. Anyone from any country can answer whatever if they so please. The USA has a weird fascination with guns. This doesn’t translate to other countries at ALL. There’s enthusiasts everywhere, sure, but way less so than on murica.
Note 9, stock Samsung. Looking to jumping into the Pixel 8/Pro with Graphene in the coming months, but gotta save up a bit first.
I’ll one-up you, and I hope nobody I know reads this. I work from home as a web dev. I have ADHD. I sometimes work deep into the night because I procrastinate all day. I’ll be working with one hand and stroking it rock hard with another, with no real horniness or need to cum for hours. It’s just like a fidgeting thing. I’m looking at code, sleep deprived out of my mind, and somehow rock hard. I don’t get it, but I’m too stressed to care.
Are you from the US? Aren’t they phasing this out?
Posted an explanation in this comment chain!
Maybe it’s a cultural or family thing? So it’s just pre-cooked rice, you cook it as you would any rice I guess, but you add chicken stock, raisins, and butter (at the end, after you’re done cooking it). Variations often also include peas and corn, maybe diced carrots, but we stick to just raisins. The savory mix of the buttery rice with tiny packets of moist raisins sprinkled about the rice makes it delicious!
Hard to follow that as a rule. Consider any YouTube video, the video id isn’t exactly human readable.
Hear me out. Christmas rice with raisins. They absorb moisture from the dish and become these sweet little treats in the midst of a very buttery and savory rice. I hate raisins but I fucking love that rice.
I can appreciate that aspect of lemmy, very technical users talking about very technical approaches to left-leaning codes of ethics, such as FOSS, privacy, self-hosting, etc. In this regard, Lemmy definitely is better than reddit and I’m learning a lot about it all in here, and am beginning to apply the things I’ve learned in my own life and computer systems.
As for actually being more left leaning? Nah son, it’s the same ideas as reddit but with a sense of hatred for “reddit libruls” for not being true scotsmen. There are right leaning communities on both platforms, there for sure are more tankies over here, but almost every single moral stance found on reddit can be found here. Literally the only thing missing on reddit is such a Tech-oriented user base (which if we’re honest, you could also find on reddit but it surfaces a lot more on lemmy in general) and the russia apologists.
Maybe people over here should stop playing the no true scotsman game and actually open up their doors and take it easy on the gatekeeping. And by “here” I mostly mean the tankie instances, holding their “holier than thou” stances n shit. Chill the fuck out, act like a true left leaner and work together with the people you’re gatekeeping, get the movement going somewhere instead of armchair criticizing people for not being left-leaning enough.
They already have a sort of functional “Assistant”. You can type to it, or you can use OpenAI’s Whisper speech-to-text language model loaded up on your Home Assistant machine through an add-on in order to talk to it, it works pretty much as well as any other proprietary speech to text model, except it’s self hosted. The assistant can talk back with another add-on, though the voices are still too robotic IMO.
Key part in all of this is the “sort of functional” bit. Commands seem to have to be very literal to be understood, otherwise it just tells you it doesn’t understand.
I’d still rather host my own assistant than rely on Google or Alexa, though, so I’m just gonna put my faith on the HASS team.
30 year old software developer from a third world country here, 8 years of job experience on my CV. My 60k/year salary from working as a contractor for US companies puts me at around the top 99th percentile of salary earners in my country. I still cannot afford to buy a house and have instead opted to live with my parents until I’ve saved up enough to move out.
It wouldn’t be the worst idea to come out of it, to be honest.
If everything is perfectly simulated, the rules that allow consciousness to emerge are also there, and thus consciousness would emerge, regardless of whether it’s a simulation or reality. If we only simulate a consciousness without laws of reality, that consciousness would still be designed to mimic a consciousness from a reality with laws (ours), and since it would be a perfect simulation (and it would have to be so in order to run meaningful tests), that consciousness might as well be as real as us. Thus, unethical.
The internet IS very US-centric, so this is kinda true, but it’s also very easy to abuse and bore people out. I’m Honduran and I know more about US Politics than about my country’s own politics. I know more about US politics than I do about every other country. This is not a flex, it’s a fucking burden on my mind and mental health.
I kinda liked how Lemmy wasn’t too US-centric at first, but I’m feeling similar levels of burnout from Lemmy as I did from Reddit, which was mostly due to how much US shit was posted there just about everywhere.
No, it really is. He lies and lies and makes almost everything up, and all every normal person sees is the trump cult eating it all up. Trump says he won, and people go fight for him thinking he did win. Then turns out he admits he lost, and NOW those same trump supporters are angry that he lied to them…when it’s been so obvious to everyone else.
He lies about his intentions, since he clearly likes the power and has profited himself off it, but his supporters think he’s being honest? Maybe he’s being blunt where others would be more formal and evasive, but he’s not being honest, almost ever. If he stands to gain nothing personally, he puts 0 effort into it, and his supporters confuse it as him being honest. It’s so bizarre that they miss it, I genuinely don’t understand it. They just attribute so much purpose to his actions where there is none beyond the need to satisfy his ego and fill his pockets. He couldn’t care less about “exposing the fascist state”, hell, he’s clearly trying to create one under his rule and for his benefit.
It pains me to think that the far left could argue in bad faith, but strawmanning “the libruls” and then making them out to be the radicalized left’s enemy, when they’re the source of most radicalized lefties…it just makes no sense to me.
