USA person here. I’ve never seen or heard anything about registering as Republican to avoid scrutiny. I understand why, with all the voter rolls being seized, one may be afraid of being a registered Dem; but I don’t believe any such trend currently exists.

I do, however, fully agree with your sentiment. The wide-spread “Midterms” hope-sheeping has led us to sleepwalk into fascism. In these two years that liberals have used for little more than marches with snarky signs, we have normalized the complete erasure of security on our property; encroached upon the First Amendment to make it commercially nonviable; normalized racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia; normalized government violence against civilians; and allowed our government to run concentration camps.

If there is a violent reaction to any blue wave, which there may very well be, the Republicans are far more equipped now than they were in 2020/2021. With the inadequacy of the USA populace and every institution—both which have rotted for decades—the only way the USA can be saved is if the alt-right willingly erases itself. I don’t see that happening.

With all the talk about “blue seats” and “blue voters” I fear most are missing the real issue. This is not just about Democrat voter disenfranchisement; We’re seeing black majority districts have their voters diluted into pools that will deprive the black community of fair representation at the state and federal level.

So much in USA political analysis treats this nation as a Democrat v. Republican turf war; failing to consider what those seats mean. When the Black community calls to fix issues that are killing their people (#BlackLivesMatter); and the majority-white neolib Democrats brush them off… this is why.

Beyond the seat colors, redistricting leads to groups being branded irrelevant. When a 75% black district is split into three regions and merged to supermajority white districts, that community effectively loses their voice. That is why we have the Voting Rights Act.

Both cases are the same dynamic. They never handled the pandemic nor will they stop ICE. The problem is still there; and workers are being coerced into endangering their own lives for marginal gains in economic metrics.

No one is excusing anything. The shooter being a high school freshman is unusual, even in a country where school shootings are tragically normalized. The US Government lied when they said they were taking the “worst of the worst”, and they lie when they say they’re solely deporting “illegals”. It was a year focused on terrorizing non-citizens, and to a lesser extent, citizens of color and Hispanic origin.

Yep. This is just one of those aspects of the internet era. I’m certain people publicly said far worse than this in every nation, and they were shunned and their words never made it into a printed article. I know far worse claims that have been published on YouTube and also never got an article about them.

Now there is the aspect that this is an organization registered as a charity. I can’t speak for the UK, but in the USA, it’s very easy to form a registered charity organization if you are willing to bind yourself to the limitations of such. It’s not something that a government department head signs off on, or a parliamentary body votes on. It’s usually an accounting operation and a rubber stamp.

So I looked up the video mentioned in the article. This just sounds like someone who is insane and/or trying to garner attention from religious hysteria. Even after this article’s publication, the video mentioned in the article has 397 views and only 7 likes, so it doesn’t seem like anyone cares who these people are.

This is a perspective that I continually see dismissed in the wider political landscape. When we say “The American Medical System is fucked” we’re not just talking about getting hit with massive bills.

Ask folks with chronic conditions, who are seeking medical treatment, how they feel about doctors. These aren’t “tinfoil hat looneys” and they know the system well. I’d bet a good amount that the most plentiful opinion will be “fuck them”.

Women and folks of color are constantly neglected in our system. Nuerodiverse folks are constantly abused. Walk with an ADHD person trying to get diagnosed, or get meds refilled. Listen to a patient with chronic pain; with schizophrenia; with anything beyond the generic “anxiety and depression”. Sit with a pregnant woman of color on Medicaid going into labor.

Or look through the two centuries of medical malpractice against women and people of color. Have we forgotten the opioid epidemic? It wasn’t the CEOs handing those prescriptions out. Have we forgotten the horrors of lobotomies and mental wards? The latter still exist. Are we just going to brush over how the queerphobic “Lavender scare” was legitimized by the medical industry? Being trans still is 3 or so mental disorders; and any identity past that point was grounds to get violated before Trump’s reelection, and still is.

I don’t know where this fetishized view of the “ever-trustworthy doctor” comes from, but it’s as detached from reality as the Manosphere’s “happy 50s housewife”.

ICE Raids did lasting damage to the American psyche. Many will never forgive this country or feel safe in America ever again. So state fairs are going to be empty; in-person shopping is going to be more depressed than normal. The economy is a factor, as always; but having federal agents storming your streets and breaking into businesses is a new tier of bad.

This trauma is real and most are still unaware of how hard it has hit. I imagine the USA will see a stark increase in nEETs, shut-ins, and “hikikomori” in the coming decades; as well as a pervasive sense of apathy and nihilism. It will be a far better time to be an online business than an in-person one.
