  • One of the nice things about the modlog is that anyone can quickly verify whether bans or comment removals are justified according to their own perspective.

Not really. Most of the time it’s like "So-n-so got banned Reason: "

So you click the context to see whats happened, and the thread is deleted. So you can’t even see what was said. You only see the topic title.

Or if the whole thread isn’t deleted, you just see “Comment deleted by mod”.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about. It’s perpetually 1998 in my mind.

Hey, crazy stuff going on with the president, huh? They’re even talking about voting for IMPEACHMENT!!!

Boy, you know you have a political mudslide when they’re talking about impeachment! Nixon almost faced that, but he resigned. Which means the last impeachment was in 1797! Crazy right???

    …hey, what’s going on in 2026?

eyes slowly widen as jaw drops

  • It’s not that I couldn’t be bothered to click. It’s just that your text is just that. Just text. Sooooooo many of these news sites have formatting on their pages so when you scroll, it scrolls the text off the screen, and right into a full page ad that can’t be closed. You have to scroll more to get the rest of the text.

Then other sites have so much popup bullshit, and redirections, and automatically playing videos.

    It’s a lot.

So I appriciate your text recap. Not because I can’t be bothered to click a link, but because they can’t be bothered to display the story on a webpage that isn’t infuriating to have to deal with. Your text recap is just the story, no bullshit. And I appriciate that. Upvote for you!

  • I remember just before the pandemic just about every non-trade job in my area was hiring at minimum wage. I’d hear store owners say they’re short staffed because nobody wants to work.

I said “How much do you start employees at?” And they’d say $7.10 per hour."

I said “At those wages, I imagine they don’t want to work an adult job when Mcdonalds down the street hires for $8.00 an hour.”

These small business owners never wanted to admit the problem. In those days, if he’d have said $12 an hour, I’d likely have applied.

  • This reminds me of the time my niece was 2 years old, and in a resteraunt she started standing on the booth seat, instead of sitting.

So my brother in law (her dad) asked her to sit. And she didn’t want to sit. So my BIL said “Look at everybody. Mommy’s sitting. Daddy’s sitting. Uncle is sitting. Nana is sitting. Everybody is sitting, and we’d like you to sit too! Can’t eat food like that if you’re standing!”

    And then she sat down.

That was 10 years ago, and it stood out because if that were me at age 2, my dad would have just yelled and me, picked me up, and dropped me hard on my ass until I stopped getting up.

It was one of those “so THIS is what good parenting looks like…” moments.
