So …if you never let any Microscope product update on your Apple product, you should be fine, right?

“The West” is still doing business with Russia, but be patient. I have it on fairly good authority the 21st EU sanctions package will contain a full services ban. This will effectively end all European involvement in transporting Russian crude/products, other commodities, etc. Probably in the Autumn.

The authors actually have cameos in the show. They were very involved in its conception and making. The books had a lot more details, little sub-stories, etc. The show made a few substantial changes, but IMHO they all made for better TV (like making Arwin a major character in Jackson’s LotR).
Fun fact: the authors initially intended for The Expanse to be a table top game.

I tried explaining this difference to Americans on the old place several times and it …did not go well.

What I think they meant to say was not that they were getting their news from social media. They clearly knew what had happened from actual news and were commenting that social media wasn’t really reporting things accurately.

The phrase I’ve heard is “epistemically privileged.” And deservedly because from a standpoint of pure ethics, “science” has done way more good than damage than competing ways of looking at the world.
But let’s say someone asks you how a car works. You go into a bit about the internal combustion engine. You explain how little explosions make pistons go. They ask you about these explosions, so you have to take them to a chemist to explain. Then they ask the chemist why does this reaction happen, and the chemist sends them to the physicist. You go through the Newtonian bit, which seems intuitive enough, but when you ask about atoms, you have to go into subatomic physics. Which is something you cannot experience without special equipment that you trust the physicist is telling the truth about.
So, yeah, while the empirical method is fantastic and the best model we have, in the end it relies on faith as much as any religion.

We have those in NL. A few other European countries as well.
