  • I used to, I am Austistic, so my mind does tend to wander.

I don’t know if I ever technically had actual insomnia, but I can very much forget that I should be sleeping. And before I learned about alarm fatigue and cleaned up my alarms to a degree that my brain wouldn’t reject, I would often end up staying up way past my sleep alarm going off.

But now I have a reasonably minimum amount of alarms only, and I am properly able to obey them without any resistance. When I get in bed, I start up my sleep music, specifically crafted to start at high energy and methodically wind down. By the end of the music I will have fallen asleep. They are all songs I have heard thousands of times, so it won’t trigger fomo and keep me awake to hear the rest or anything.

I do not touch my phone again until I wake up in the morning, I don’t have a morning alarm, as I don’t need to be awake at any specific time, so I “sleep until full health” like a videogame character, except honestly I think it works to a degree in real life too. I’m never sick, and my injuries heal faster than other people’s. My mind and body just have enough time to get done what they want to get done while everything is shut down.

I’m over 40 now, but still feel like a teenager.

  • It is still hard to believe, but yes, he has been president twice now, the first time was indeed during 2019. It is also sometimes hard to believe 2019 was long enough ago that there have been multiple president changes since then.

But if you’ll recall, Trump was president when Covid 19 started. He ignored and then downplayed it for so long that he is largely responsible for a huge portion of the americans it killed. And due to how out of control it got, and to a degree still is, especially lately since it is back on the rise now, potentially also responsible for a decent portion of the non-americans it has killed too. He shares that with a lot of other terrible leaders though.

I don’t know if you have to think that way because you want to feel better about something you do or if you have been taught it by someone… You are looking at something 2-dimensionally and assuming you have the full idea of it. By constraining yourself to only the simple concept of it and not what it all touches on, you are deluding yourself to the full effect it has.

What case are you referring to? The initial comment was on how the stock market transfers wealth from poor people to rich people over time. There was no individual referred case.

While new wealth is also theoretically created, that doesn’t change the fact that it is also coming from people that don’t do well on the stock market, which is the vast majority numerically. It very much is just gambling for them, against the “house”.

  • Isn’t it that he was the surgeon? So he billed the insurance for himself and paid himself the money. Instead of the money going to the hospital and some portion of it going towards his paycheck, but most of it going towards the cost of running and supplying a hospital with all the tech and tools they need to stay current and have competitive success rates.

Or did he just claim disability or something by way of accident instead of by choice, to get a higher disability insurance pay out?

Either way, fraud is basically any time you lie to get money, criminal fraud is when you lie to get enough money that the police care. And it certainly seems like he lied to get more money than he was entitled.

In my experience the guy on the left gets a loving wife who understands and respects him. The guy on the right gets a bunch of random sex, often only once per woman, and either goes to prison for how he treats them, or has a bunch of divorces. Also nowadays there is a 50/50 chance his pickup is in the same price range as his house.

  • Your baseball card became worth more because more of them got lost or destroyed over time so it got more rare. So the increase in value came from all the people that lost their 5 dollar card. And also partially from inflation.

Completely different from the stock market.

The money from the stock market comes primarily from other investors. You may not be directly taking it from them, but there are only a few layers of abstraction between them putting money into a stock that went down and you taking money out of a stock that went up.

But the main advantage rich people have in the stock market is less latency in their trades and more weight to swing around. Not to mention being much more likely to have insider info, but even without actually cheating they have quite a few advantages that tip it in their favour.

  • Yeah, very much looking forward to headsets with 8k panels. Most are up to 4k now, and it’s getting pretty good. If it stays at 4k for a bit, that would be fine. But it’s definitely an area where 8k will still be a very noticeable upgrade.

Even if the only short-term practical use for an 8k panel is how far away a 4k or 1080p screen would be clear to read in an augmented reality situation, that would be reason enough. But I personally will gladly lower quality settings to run VR games in 8k instead of 4k as well.

  • The stock market is just a way for people with more money to slowly take money away from people with less money, while the people with less money feel like they have a chance of winning. For poor people it is basically gambling, and for rich people it is basically owning the casino.

There are so many built-in structures to the way it operates to favour the flow of money to larger holders over time.

Also it’s only slow for the rich people, for the poor people it can happen in an instant.
