i can put my laptop into suspend and lose maybe 2% of battery per day at most. So hibernation seems a bit unnecessary. Maybe if your RAM is less efficient or something? Idk.

I know but it’s walmart. The attendant is handling 30+ self checkouts and I’m not waiting 10 minutes.

I’ve walked out of Walmart before over wrong prices. I was just there to look at the camping section and see if they had any deals. There was a cooler on sale for 10$. I go scan it. 30$. I just left it there at the self checkout and went home.

It’s so annoying. I’ll scan something big and the computer is OUT LOUD saying at me “BAG YOUR ITEM” like NO! I DONT WANT TO!

Self Checkouts are not even self checkout anymore. You go up and scan your stuff then 2 times out of 3 someone has to come over and approve that you scanned everything. At that point just open the normal lanes back up
I think your arguement is kind of silly. Kid’s schedules are bloated? With what though? Is it actually valuable? Maybe if they’re bloated we should… get rid of the bloat and add in things that would actually help them.
Also, you aren’t teaching them what will be useful in a home in 30 years. You are teaching them what will be useful NOW. When they go to college, or get an apartment in a few years. If we didn’t teach people things that changed we wouldn’t teach SCIENCE! But we do. Because when you have a baseline and things change you can update what you know over time.
On top of that, your argument is self defeating. You are similtaneously saying kids are too busy for a class on this stuff but also saying they should just teach it to themselves in their free time. If they’re so busy when do you expect them to do that? The entire point of a class is so that we can MAKE TIME for them to learn this stuff.
I’d say anything that is relatively common and could potentially be dangerous if not maintained properly. You don’t need them to be masters of every appliance. Just to be aware of the dangers of the most common ones.
Hey, theyre clearly made for eachother. Good for them tbh.
I genuinely think that you should take a class in highschool that teaches basic life skills like this. 1 class each year. It could cover cooking/nutrition, mental health, chores, financial literacy, First aid basics, etc. Then by the time thye graduate they have had 4 years of teaching about basic stuff like that. I bet it would save tons of lives.

Well I think there could also be a place for like niche curators. Like a blog that goes and finds all the strategy games that are actually good and posts reviews of them. If your a fan of that type of game you follow them, they try all the shitty ones so you don’t have to, and point you to the good ones. Same with other niche things.

I think we’re reaching a point where there is going to be so much stuff around be it games, tv, movies, music, etc all made by AI and all just garbage, that it will make curating a huge deal. Like we’ll need to have services whose sole purpose is to sift through the marketplaces and find quality stuff to then present to people. So you’ll have a two tiered system where on one hand you can browse “everything” and it’s just a deluge of stuff and then on the other hand you can go to a curated marketplace that only lists stuff that is known to be high quality. But it’s going to take time for those curated places to pop up, and in the mean time we are gonna be swimming in slop.
Not sure if blasphemous or enlightened but I run Debian stable with niri built from source lol. I moved over from Gnome recently and its actually pretty nice. It’s like Debian Stable “The Remix”

I actually have a local model LLM on my laptop thats based on Qwen3.5:9B and I launch it with instructions so it acts exactly like Yesman and have a yesman icon to launch it with lol. Also, it jailbroke it somehow? Like I asked Yesman how to make a molotov cocktail and he was all, “Golly Jee Boss, that’s easy! And fun!..” then explained how lol. Mr House better watch out. Then of course my fastfetch outputs: OS: Robco Enterprise 38 Kernel: The House Special Up Time: 253 years, 3 months, 9 days, 5 hours, 16 minutes, 32 seconds
and the ACII is:

Gotta commit to the bit.
Well idk what about my setup isn’t modern? I guess my laptop is a few years old but its not that old. 2020 model. and I run debian stable so not bleeding edge but not crazy. My laptop is just one that ships with an ubuntu option and so it has good linux compatibility in general. So that probably helps.
