In a nutshell: If they hit one side of your face, turn the other cheek. You know one of the reasons why they’re calling us “cucks”? Because we will take the moral high ground every time they hit a new low, including on positions we have never really hold. Remember all the “why are you so intolerant of intolerance?” posts? That caused many of us to just go full out tolerant of nazis, to not appear “anti free speech”, which for them means “free from criticism and with a guaranteed audience”, not “free expression until you don’t hurt others”. Hell, at the end days of my “nihilistic edgelord” phase, if I wanted to joke about Stalin alongside of Hitler, I got called out on the former, because the latter “only killed 600 000 (!) people”. (A number from a then common and dumb holocaust denialist theory of “they accidentally put one extra zero there”)

Expect this to escalate to really bad levels. Not just by women getting raped, but those awful men getting “what they deserve”, which will lead to further escalations. All because of they wanted what those stupid Coca-Cola and gas stove ads depicted.

Okay, maybe he would have alienated like a small percentage of liberals that thought he was “too radical” and he will bring a holodomor on the US for some reason. Still, he not only could have won a lot of Republicans, but even more people who normally abstaining from voting.

We need to regroup ASAP, on other platforms, like here on Lemmy. I’m already seeing some happenings, we just need to beg more people to come here. It’ll go in waves. Currently both the Fediverse and BlueSky are cozy places, and as they continue to further decay, both are going to gain more and more users. I’m less on these kinds of platforms, but I started to instead doomscroll way less and either watch more videos or are more productive. We maybe even should call this movement “social media detox”.
