I think this depends on context. I live in Sweden, so a non-slavic country, and I have known multiple women with -ski suffixes. Some from marriages or being born in Sweden and just getting ski automatically, but I had a teacher from Poland who has the masculine ending.

So I think if you’re in a country where last names are typically gendered, then sure, it can help to have a last name that is congruent with your identity. If you’re in a country where that is not the norm, I think it’s fine either way.

In any case, it’s her name and her choice.

But Deepseek isn’t Open Source by any definition of that word that I’m familiar with. Sure, they release more components than ProprietaryAI (which is a low bar,) but what you’re left with is still a blob with a lot of the source code not released and no data set published as far as I can tell. Also, if I wanted to train my own model with the tools released, I’d still need millions of GPU hours. As I said, they are more transparent than others, but let’s not warp the definitions of words just to give a “win” to another company that is just making another hallucination machine.

  • Ah, that’s annoying. Have you reported the issue to Valve? Seems like it’s their issue to fix. I personally haven’t encountered this issue, so I’m unable to help further, but it seems that it’s an issue with Steam’s Linux client since the rest of the system is unaffected, as I understand it.

  • I’ve noticed that Steam for Windows displays download speed in mbit/s while the Linux client displays it in mbyte/s, although both display the unit as mb/s. This is a setting that can be toggled. This doesn’t account for the entire difference (1887mbit > 109mbyte) but is one contributing factor.
