Some people just kinda need ritual and other elements of religion in order to feel their best, especially during difficult times. Community is another common need.

Many people use a variety of things to attempt to assuage unmet needs, psychological issues, and lack of personal fulfillment. Christians love to tell people that alcohol and casual sex are coping mechanisms for lacking religion, but they never point out that sometimes religion is a coping mechanism for lack of casual sex.
