We shouldn’t expect companies to “look after kids”. We should, however, force companies to adhere to the law. The law in this case is, “don’t use manipulative and socially destructive business practices; They fck our society and harm the kids.”

Saw this post a month ago. I still had access to old.reddit. Figured they eventually cut me off.
Today they finally cut me off. I guess that’s it.

I’m gay and dick is large, when it works.

How is this meaningful?
It is meaningful.
I agree, a huge drop in people making less than $5 a day, does not equal a huge drop in people with guaranteed access to medicine food, etc.
However, it does mean that a ton of people now have at least 5 more dollars. Not a life changing amount, but it is an incremental improvement.
And realistically, that’s how we’re going to complex social problems like global poverty. With incremental improvements.
Note that the graph doesn’t say which policies are causing the drop. Only that a drop is happening. It is possible (in fact likely) that some policies are making things worse (IMF restructuring prioritizing private creditors over local people) and other policies are making things better (PEPFAR)
The graph also shows that while the current mix of policies correlates with huge drops in extreme poverty, it has barely made a dent in regular poverty (< $30/day). This shows that if our goal is to get rid of all poverty, the current policy mix is not doing that.
Just because you can’t derive any use from the graph, doesn’t mean it’s useless.

This is an ad hominem attack. If you want to argue that the data is wrong. Do that, don’t vaguely wave towards the evil boogeyman.

Omg, this. The part time legal thing is happening to me right now.
I’m building a small app for a (multimillion dollar) company. Nothing major. I tell the project manager: “hey, you guys need a EULA to publish in the app store. You can use the std apple one or write your own. Tell me what you want to do.”
This woman comes back to me with: “what do you think we should do?”
Like b#%^!, I don’t know! Why would you want me to tell you how define the legal relationship between you and your customers?
After some prodding, she forwards the request to legal and sends back a DRAFT EULA asks: “Can you review this?”
NO. I cannot review legal documents. I’m horrendously under qualified for that!!!
/end rant

I assume he’s doing great.
My mans was cooking his own food; realized (own his own) that his way of cooking was suboptimal; and then asked for help.
That approach is to life is going take him far.
Counter-anecdote
In my friend group, the bisexuals are very “gender is irrelevant.”
While the “attracted to one specific gender and others” ppl tend me more … “straight, but I’ll suck a dick” (or the inverse “gay, but boobs are super hot”)
You basically described VAT. Which works extremely well. Some small tweaks to capture all revenue (not just sales) and a wealth tax to discourage hoarding and revenue taxation would function quite well.

That’s a little harsh. Given the audience of the post, a politics board on lemmy, it’s rather obvious what their point is.
Namely: they’re criticizing voters who refused to vote for Kamala (and by extension the Democratic Party) because the oft repeated “both sides are the same” complaint.
I sincerely doubt that OP’s intent was to bait lemmy leftists into a frenzied rage to defend Kamala against this obvious slander. :/

It’s really sad that the state of discourse in our society has reached the level where this is valid point.

Tbf, the phrase “as the movies say”, makes it reasonable to assume that OP meant AGI. Not the broad definition of AI.
I mean, when is the last time you saw a movie about the dangers of the k-nearest neighbor algorithm?
She’s just trying to get him to drink less. AI wife cares.

Fading? Global support is about as visible as God during the holocaust.

Tbf, I don’t think he’s lying about his explicit desire to a dictator.

Gatorade for the win. My life changed when I discovered the healing power of gatorade.

I feel ya. I think that for mild mental health issues, simply giving people an acceptable excuse for “not having to fit in the box,” probably does more than the actual treatment.

I strongly believe that a friend of mine has undiagnosed ADHD. The degree to which everyone around him keeps saying, “he’s not atypical, he just to stop being a fuck up and commit to something” is frustrating. My man needs treatment, not tough love.

That’s very pessimistic. It assumes that there is a corporate led reform. Which is unlikely. If it was a grass roots campaign, the call for change would include a weekend proposal from the start. By the time businesses come around to supporting it, the weekend will alredy be defined as 3-work-2-off, or 7-work-3-off.
The average office worker has no idea what those words mean, let alone how to use them. Do you seriously expect a run-of-the-mill HR worker to write css? Memorize latex commands? Resolve merge conflicts?
Naw my man. Word sucks, but its point-and-click, drag-and-drop, type-on-page UI is the maximum level of complexity a user can handle.
Creating a simple intuitive UI for document editing is hard. I’m not saying Microsoft succeeded at creating that with Word; but let’s be honest no else has either.
