I’ve been daily driving fedora for a few years now, but I never really get deeper into anything than opening Firefox, and a few Gnome extensions. Haha
Same great Dharma, new SolarPunk packaging!

That makes a lot of sense. I think I’d like to do it, eventually, if for no other reason than I am 33, and I feel like my time to learn this shit is slipping away pretty quickly sometimes, but maybe not for all my important stuff like family pictures. Start small and just make sure i can do it first, once I understand a little more
I understood some of that! Mostly the things like “a,” “the,” “and,” and other such technical terms. Lol
Is my data more secure on hertzner? I thought self hosting was supposed to be better for that?
Any advice for a near (tech) illiterate newb on what to get? I only recently switched from using a patchwork of like 2 dozen different google drives to store all my stuff to a single nextcloud account through hertzner. But it costs per month, and that’s always risky with my finances. Would love to learn how to do it myself, but don’t know where to start. If it matters, I got the 5tb plan, and have 5 people on it (self included).
Depends on what you’re wanting to learn. I’m a fellow tech illiterate noob, but I’ve been off and on with Linux since like 2006. Finally switched full time a few years ago. Honestly, with Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora I’ve found you basically can just set it and forget it, depending on your use case. YouTube has been my best friend whenever I have a problem, normally I type my issue into that before even google. How long have you been using Linux? If you’re still in the distro hopping phase,I suggest trying to swap Desktop environments instead of distros, as it gives you a little experience with the terminal, is well documented on how to do it, and gives you a good idea of what kind of UI you want
That’s all I got, though. I really am pretty illiterate at tech stuff haha
No, sadly I live in the US :(
High temps as in sub 90 degrees F, yeah. Not desert hot. Haha
This is honestly beautiful
The only thing high temps have going for them is a long growing season for the garden and being able to swim.
Since I can’t ever find the time to hit the lake or rivers anymore, I’d be perfectly happy with a green house and becoming more efficient with my planting schedule.
Plus, in the winter I get to wear scarves and jackets with extra pockets. Extra pockets are nice.
Haven’t heard of the worst witch, I don’t think, unless that’s the one that also uses a magical platform at kings cross
As someone who grew up at the height of the potter craze, and was well and truly entrenched in it (stood in line for the books, read them through without sleeping, went to events, et cetera) I can honestly say that the first earthsea book is legitimately better than the potter books. I’ll never be able to hate the HP books, despite despising JKR, but a wizard of earthsea is just much better written. It’s so freaking good, and tells it’s story in such a charming and completely unique way.
I will do that. Thank you very much
Can you recommend anything for learning more about this? We’ve been trying to go through the USDA because we cannot afford a down payment, but they require the house to be in basically perfect condition, meaning there’s nothing we can afford.
Yeah, I started with 32, upgraded to 40, and then decided screw it and jumped to a half gallon. I keep the 40 around for when I make smoothies or something. It’s oversized, but it has a straw and keeps everything nice and cold
I’m… Gonna need further elaboration
I use a half gallon insulated metal water bottle/jug and it’s incredible. I love it so much, and I couldn’t go back to even a normal sized one. I drink easily a half gallon a day now. I’m about to upgrade to a 1 gallon, because the lid on my half gallon is difficult to open, and the 1 gallon has a much better lid. I know it seems ridiculous, but it made a carry bag for it with a strap to wear almost like a messenger bag. I can carry all my shit and get hydrated at the same time. So fantastic.
Also, buzio is the brand on Amazon (I know. God, I know, but we don’t have a lot of options where I live. If anyone knows a better one, I’d love to hear it). They’re great. Everyone in my family has one in different sizes
This one is sort of very specific and niche, but as a caregiver of someone with an ostomy, you can take a roll of this disposable plastic produce bags from the grocery store. Terrible for use as a produce bag because they’re plastic and disposable and whatnot, but for bag empties when you need to use something disposable no matter what? They’re invaluable.
Also doggy poop bags. Great for that. Just grab one of the small almost empty rolls, and tell the cashier “I’mma take these” and no one gives a shit
Honestly, kind of mind blowing even thinking of them as a technology, they’re so ubiquitous. I use a knife a minimum of 10 times a day, and that’s just in the kitchen, not including opening mail, packages, small medical stuff, and a ton more uses. Holy shit, where would we be without those inclined edges?
Awesome comment to read at 430 in the morning. Thank you
Dammit, why did you remind me dollhouse exists? Now I’m sad there isn’t more dollhouse!
Just like women vote the same as their husbands? We’ll practically double the line length at the polls if we give women the vote, and their votes won’t really matter, because it’s the same as if their husbands or fathers just voted normally. Not worth the effort.
Not being an ass, it’s just that every single argument I’ve ever seen against lowering the voting age has been almost identical to the arguments used against women voters back in the day. I’m not suggesting you’re against women having the vote, just that the arguments are similar, and pointing that out helps to demonstrate why they might not as strong as some would think. Teenagers are also notoriously capable of disagreeing with their parents on political issues. It’s sort of a thing with them often enough.
Totally agree about access to voting. Automatic registration at 16, coting day a national holiday, polls should be open for at least a month, with every post office a polling place, and government run bussing to and from polling places, and mandatory paid time off for wt least 1 day in that month. Universal suffrage. Including incarcerated people. Honestly, nothing should be able to interfere with your right to vote. I go back and forth on compulsory voting, but tend to lean towards it. And this is coming from an Anarcho communist, who doesn’t generally believe we’re ever going to fix things through the ballot box.
