No, that would cost too much extra in manufacturing, and we’re all sitting for this anyway

8·2 days agoLet’s be honest, you have to be extremely careless to have agents running destructive commands freely in prod
Very common in the UK too. Lunch is dinner, dinner is dinner, dinner is tea, tea is also a specific type of afternoon meal (scones and sandwiches).
Even then, people will just say something like ‘morning tea’ instead of breakfast.
It’s a linguistic war zone.

11·9 days agoThat’s fair. I’m probably not thinking it through. I can certainly see how this could quickly go downhill. I think we’ll see the reality of it with today’s school generations getting jobs in a few decades.

My texts are rubbish because, somehow, the keyboard predictions & autocorrect are worse now than 5 years ago. We have LLMs barfing out fully coherent sentences on their own, how does this even happen.

Games@lemmy.world•Why do modern games have such large file sizes?English
21·11 days agoAAA do not manufacture demand for storage, that’s frankly ridiculous.
This is a simple issue of optimization:
A: noone cares to optimise the size when performance is a much bigger issue.
B: games are still often optimised for HDDs on consoles (duplicated assets), then ported to PC with as little effort as possible

Didn’t they go through a lot of effort to not have to have many testers?
They have rolling releases and preview channels for regular users to bugtest for them.

Postapocaliptic isolated society kind of thing with a mystery aspect, for those unaware. Lots of twists.

There are use cases for everything. Cheaper electricity during the night - schedule the dryer to sync with that. Disabled and can’t reach the AC or light controls easily? Do it through your phone.
The real problem IMO is that these are implemented poorly, insecurely* and often through closed ecosystems, remote servers and million apps.
If this was done well, users like you could ignore the features, and others could make use of them. When you can’t turn a fan on because your Fast Fans app logged you out, then I’d just rather not…
