  • There’s nothing wrong with it if you like it. At work, our servers are windows and I hate them. IN my home lab, I have a couple of guinea pig windows servers to play with and my actual home stack run on various flavors of linux - mainly ubuntu and centos. My gaming rig is windows because i just want to play the game, not play learn how to make the game run. And my workstation that I sit in front of and work at every day is a Mac because at work my job is to fix other people’s shit, and I don’t want to have to fix my own workstation in the middle of a client’s fire like my old windows workstation did to me many a time. I also don’t want to have to learn weird ways to do basic tasks when I’m on the clock like I do with my linux laptop. Every OS has a way that is shines, and if your use case aligns don’t let anybody make you feel bad about it.

  • Then get a job that isn’t tip based. Folks take those jobs because “I usually make more in tips” but that’s literally the gamble you sign up for with that mentality. I don’t want to take that gamble, so I work a job that isn’t reliant on tips. I don’t have good days where some rich dude gives me 100 bucks for no reason, but I also don’t have bad days where I make less than I expect and don’t know how to pay my bills. Tipping culture is bullshit and it’s the owning class exploiting us all, but workers who sign up to work for tipped based jobs know what they are getting into and don’t get my sympathy any more than some dude working at Best Buy hating his life does

  • That’s a completely different issue though - there are loads of minimum wage jobs that aren’t tipped. The issue here is that tipped positions can be paid LESS THAN minimum wage, and while legally if their tips and hourly come out to less than minimum wage they should be given minimum wage, this often does not happen.

But then when you argue this point with servers they’ll say “but I make more with tips” and that’s the point where I say ok then if you prefer it that way cool but I’m not tipping and then they get all shocked pikachu face and start trying to argue why I have to tip because of the wage issue I WAS JUST DESCRIBING at which point I say get fucked your are part of the problem.

My main issue with Discovery was that it never felt like Star Trek. I always called it BBC’s Trek through the Stars because to me it felt like a BBC drama set in a vaguely Trek like universe. It was a good show, just didn’t FEEL like Trek. Strange New Worlds though? Feels just like the Trek I miss
