A cranky biologist who means well. My hobbies include long walks off short piers and anything science related.
Keep sharing the tapes.
I finally got a widget I modeled in OpenSCAD to print correctly in my resin printer. The shape is such that supports were really challenging.
It’s interesting to me because I have graduated from the ‘tchotchkes’ phase of printing into the realm of making functional parts that further my other projects.
Trying to get Cthulu’s tentacle-beard to print correctly was a good exercise, but designing and printing a useful part feels like a real step up.
As a person raised deep in the Mormon culture in our lovely Deseret, I get it. Being bisexual and independently minded made it impossible to stay in the culture, but damnit, it is still part of who I am.
So many complex emotions that you need to use German to try to describe them.
The purpose of a system is what it does, after all.
I meditate as part of a dedicated yoga practice. When I am doing a group practice, i arrive early and perform a physical warm up and then spend ten minutes in a seated meditation before the class begins. It makes a huge difference in the quality of my workout to get my mind firmly rooted in the immediate experience.
Excellent idea. That is more likely to be effective than waiting for it to happen nationwide first.
Are you aware of any local efforts to do that? I’d love to hear of them.
I certainly cannot disagree with you. I guess I’m making an argument about how an individual should spend their precious and limited time and emotional energy.
How would you suggest a person get their state to sign the compact?
And how do we move from FPTP and electoral college madness to one of the various proportional strategies?
We have to engage now with the system as it is. Wanking on Lemmy is only so effective.
I kept watching and he just kept getting smoother!
But I do (sort of) blame farmers (agribusiness really) for a lot of obesity. Maybe everything doesn’t need corn syrup in it?
Fossil fuels are useful as hell for chemical feedstocks and we mostly just burn them. Stop trying to prevent solutions by spuriously individualizing the causes.
Ketamine is widely considered one of the safest drugs, so safe that only cops could find a way to overdose someone on it.
It’s so true. I like David Graeber’s characterization of this phenomenon as ‘the communism of the rich’. Once you have broken into the club, it’s all ‘OUR expropriated labor, eh, comrade?’
If it’s a Jack O’Neil cylinder, I will consider your proposal.
It works like a regular O’Neil cylinder, but cooler somehow.
All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be.
I am a better person because of my non-belief than I ever was as a believer-by-default due to my upbringing in a cult.
If this is it, what are you doing right now to make the best of it? Belief encourages moral laziness and the ultimate procrastination of waiting till the next life to address problems that exist here and now.
I have become a little active in my county party. Trying to learn the Democratic way of doing things (first impressions: no one is in charge). Hoping to be able to use my database and reporting skills to help improve the ground game for 2024.
I make steady but friendly eye contact with anyone asking for ID from my younger dining companions. The challenge is there, are you telling me I look old enough to drink! (Im balding and completely grey on the remainder, there’s no pretending any more)
A choice that will bless you the remainder of your days. When you grow up, your heart dies. No one really grows up anyway, some just make the sad choice to harden up and become closed to growth and new experiences.
Hard agree. Im 52 and most of my friends average about 30ish. Thing is I can relate, but due to extra time in the game of life, I have made a peace with the challenges younger people still fight with. Still the proximity of youth is a valuable perspective. I treasure my younger friends for this and many other reasons.
Interesting enough, Morgan’s widow became one of Joseph Smith’s plural wives. It’s a small country.
