  • It has some benefits to both consumers and automotive industry.

I live in an apartament block, as do many people. Can’t really charge when parking by the street. If I could go into subscription like service with a charging network where I don’t own the battery outright and just swap it at gas stations that solves a lot of issues. It’s faster than charging and I don’t have to own a battery outright which lowers initial investment. That battery doesn’t even have to have that great of a range either. Car company / charging network or whoever does the battery leasing benefits long term because they can charge more overall.

  • Similar experience here. I rely on mobile broadband for home internet and was okay for many years on LTE. Speeds up to 110mbps, at worst 30mbps during peak hours.

Around a year ago my carrier installed 5G equipment on a local tower (300 meters away), I got a €300 5G modem/router and for a brief moment got whopping 130mbps. Not the best purchase but at least I’m future-proof, I thought.

Then network stability went to the toilet. It’s a bit better when I disable 5G (🙃). I thought it might be my new modem but old one has same issues. My guess 5G equipment is not only overhyped but also buggy as hell. Obviously anecdotal evidence and ymmv.

  • I avoid algorithmic feeds on Twitter and Facebook because of that exact reason, it was just pure outrage bait and run of the mill entertainment I had no interest in. I use both with chronological feed because they still have their uses - Twitter for following war in Ukraine and Facebook for some niche groups and local events.

What interested me in TikTok initially was that their algorithm supposedly didn’t suck. It’s pretty subjective but I think it learned my interests very quickly and now keeps me in that warm outrage-free bubble. It’s also pretty obvious that it tries to switch up things every now and then, for example sometimes it shows very obscure videos with barely any views, other times you get pulled into a string of gypsy weddings (and comment section shows you’re as confused as others). Ultimately it’s quite fun and harmless if used in moderation.
