Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Would you use this app?: 'Subscription' to FOSS
1·7 months agoWhat am I gonna do with “72% Alacritty, 27% Firefox, 1% Meld, 0% Other”? I’m not gonna give Mozilla money until they pivot to browsers.
Ricing is mucking with compilation flags on Gentoo for no observable gain or even detriment. If it extends to hideous cars of a certain manufacturing origin, I’m sorry for the cars’ feelings, but it’s not racist until cars start having a race.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Am I okay without a VPN on public networks if I use HTTPS?
1·9 months agoThis comment manages to be wrong twice: DNSSec doesn’t encrypt queries and does nothing to hide SNI.

Technology@lemmy.world•Mastodon says it doesn't 'have the means' to comply with age verification lawsEnglish
1·9 months agoOh, it will work fine, as soon as it issues it’s first cert without any reference to the identity, it wouldn’t even be needed until it’s expiry. But it’s easier to just not build it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•With housing costs being at record highs, would you consider living in your car to save money on rent?
1·9 months agoHell no, I would never own a car.
Not to mention the blow to the nationalism.
8/10. -4 for unneeded weight, -3 for asymmetry making prongs short, +5 for actually sharp prongs. Looking at you, every other “fork” out there you.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Would you drive an extra 20 minutes (10 miles) to get the blizzard on the right?
1·9 months agoI wouldn’t drive 20 minutes for $1000, let alone a mockery of an icecream.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Featured review for an app about stretching. Why can't Apple do better than this when it comes to bogus reviews?English

Finally! You found something where XMPP can’t compete with Matrix.
We literally have a glance at a map to chain together and cache “two blocks ahead, left, cross and [look] west”

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are you all doing for android "provisioning"?English
1·11 months agoSame until I get to adb, then set it all up from there on with my wonky automation that uses fdroidcl, uiautomator2 and a bunch more stuff.
https://github.com/t184256/droidctl is the tool, actual scripts are private, sorry.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What linguistic constructions do you hate that no one else seems to mind?
2·11 months agoI have zero gripes with my mother tongue borrowing English words for new concepts. It might be the best thing it can do, second only to dying.
But every one in ten words it borrows the wrong form. “*What’s that board? That’s a surfing. How do I call the one riding it? Why, a surfinger, of course. *” “My sister sent me another reels-- pluralize what, reelss? Of course it’s reelss, you weirdo.” Makes me wanna scrape my eyes and ears out.

If you actually tried to do anything useful on a 2004 machine, you wouldn’t post that.
