  • I’ve been working a lot with ships, and the same issue is prevalent there. On yhe smaller boats DC is used, and this is usually stepped up and inverted when higher voltages or AC is needed. This is usually fine unless we’re talking about a lot of current-hungry hardware such as sidebscan sinars etc.

12V is fine for recreational boats only. 24V is the only viable voltage for industrially equipped boats (I was involved with outfitting a tiny ROV boat with a side scan sonar… all the equipment was 24V, while the mains were 12V. It was a pain in the ass to manage.

48V would make things a lot easier.

  • I learned once upon a time that a healthy person needs about three weeks to starve to death if they have water. Not sure how accurate it is as it’s part of the rule of three mnemonic; 3 minutes without oxygen, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food. However, it does at least seem reasonably plausible, so we can use that as a baseline.

Now, beer does have some nutrients, but far from enough of the ones you need. It has to be balanced with water to be able to burn the alcohol without dehydrating yourself. I would therefore think that the beer in moderate amounts might help some, but not a lot. Four weeks total, maybe?

  • Preinstalls is the only way I’ve paid Microsoft recently, and that was for two gaming PCs for my kids. Before that it was when I bought a laptop with preinstalled OS in 2009.

Only time i paid them directly was for the win98 upgrade license, which was objectively worth it since I could use my Win3.1 floppies as an upgrade starting point.

Now I’m a linux user. I only have windows on my work laptop.
